** SKYLAKE NOW AVAILABLE & IN STOCK!! **

I am quite confused tbh for years now these chips the 2600k the 3770k the 4770k have all come out at around the 280 pound mark now all of a sudden the next one in the line is 320 and it has had its cooler removed so that should have dropped the price a few quid atleast, i get that with dx12 you will be able to combine your gpu with the onboard gpu and this will give you a nice boost (aslong as it works :P ) but i really fail to see what justify's a price hike.

o and the current price in dollars is 350 (so about 225 pounds) so with vat and a mark up it would be sitting at the usual price of 280 pounds seeming the product is lighter and smaller to ship (aka you can ship more for the same money) what is adding 95 pounds overall to the cost of this product? (please note this is a general thing and not just ocuk) it just seems like there is somthing very dodgy going on.

The strategy is to get rid of 4790k and 5820k stock. Prices should fall in a few months, especially when the Zen rumour mill ramps up.

Nice to see the OcUK team completely ignore our comments regarding price.

Definitely a sales technique to get rid of the old stock. Which makes me worry about the OcUK ethics.

"Great customer service, great sales but we will shaft you on the new stuff"

Well you have lost my sale. Maybe get the ram etc here but I won't be getting the CPU here that's for sure.

Maybe you could do two product lines in the future. One for the die hards who need the chips day after release and a cheaper one for the people willing to que for the next batch.

Go outside and have a ciggy, you'll feel better ;) :D

I love the salt levels in this thread.

Sits waiting for 4690's and 4790's to appear in the mm.

Can't believe I still have my 2500K. I'm usually one for updating my CPU. Even up until now it's not been worth it.

What are the yearly increase percentages of CPU power in smartphones and tablets? Seems to be more than 5% or so.

I have been saying that Skylake will be the point at which I upgrade ever since I bought into Sandybridge, but now it is actually here, I think I can wait a little longer. :p

Same. I've been trying to spend money for years. I can't even seem to manage to buy a GPU these days. No point buying any GPU on offer atm when they won't run star citizen to a good enough standard.

coming from a AMD 8350, skylake will be good ? the boards are cheaper and use lower power then 5820k

i will just be gaming

We sold out of 5820K stock only a week or so ago. We are most certainly not overstocked on this CPU.

We are presenting a good argument for X99 thats all.

i5 Skylake is still the best option at low-mid level. You want or need HT you need X99.

Phew. I ordered one. I'd say its mid to high level though!

Upgrading from a locked i5 4440, so I think it will be a decent upgrade especially when overclocked.

I also went for the MSI Z170A Gaming M5. I liked the idea of dual M2 slots, hopefully the SSD's for them come down in price now :)

Next up a 980 ti... :)

How likely are we to see any new 1150 chips or is the current line up the end of the road? For someone without either a X99 or Z170 board which path is the best?

I'm still running the Q9550, so either would be a massive jump but don't want to buy a new motherboard to fine I later can't upgrade the CPU.

Currently thinking of getting a Z170 board along with a cheaper I5 (6600K) and do a full CPU upgrade when the 6 (maybe 8 core) S model drop in 12-18 months)

Ideas?

I was waiting for the skylake release before deciding my upgrade path, and I just decided to go the x99 route, and quickly grabbed a 5820k before they sell out.

At this price point, I just don't see the reason to NOT go x99.

Possible that there will be a skylake refresh, much like how 4790k replaced the 4770k. Doubt though that we will see 6 core chips on mainstream. Always the preserve of the enthusiast X series platform.

I won't be if AMD come out with an 6/8 core mainstream chip that kicks intels butt.

Yea, if AMD jump ahead. Intel will come out with an 8 core CPU for under £300 a month late I bet. With the tiny improvements over the last few generations, they will be sitting on something :)
