Skyrim fail - Why don't you like it?

I just think that playing a game like Skyrim or WoW, you get satisfaction from completing quests/leveling up etc... would it not be better to go rock climbing or cycling and get satisfaction from that instead. The satisfaction from building something yourself e.g. a computer is a lot more self-gratifying that just going into a shop and buying one isn't it?

I'm not sure we're allowed to go chopping people up with swords and fight dragons in real life.

LOL you seem to think this is what people do 24/7. Just because be play RPG's does not mean we don't alos do LIFE. In fact on what you are saying no-one should play games at all, we should just go out all the time and do stuff.

You have this one minded theme about the story. Yes Skyrim does have a good story but it is not just that. You do know most people who play RPG's like to wonder around the map looking through caves etc to see what can be looted. Yes I love the story but the main reason I like RPG's is that I can do whatever I like, I can do quests or I can just wander about finding stuff. You seem to have forgotten that part altogether and based your whole agrument on reading books. I am sorry but I can't wonder around finding things myself in a book.

No, I don't have a one minded theme about the story at all. My 'hierarchy' of storytelling is quite set, and I never play a computer game expecting anything near as rich or detailed. I play a game expecting what I have already said (as have others)- the interactivity part, the ability to change things. A poster above said that this is unique to games - he's wrong, of course, we all remember the ten-a-penny paperbacks where you flicked from page to page according to your decisions...) but the general jist is still right. I'm asking what Skyrim delivers in the gameplay department that makes it a worthy purchase/play. I'm not playing the storyline angle at all because I'm already decided it'll be inferior to any fantasy-fiction classic. I want to know what it has that is worth paying for. The UI, graphics/visuals and combat system all look decidedly half-rate.

Hahahahaha.

So you started with Skyrim, had no argument at all and now you've just launched an attack on gamers everywhere...

Troll on, brother.

Moderation, something that MMORPG's or RPG's don't go hand in hand with.

I'm not sure we're allowed to go chopping people up with swords and fight dragons in real life.

Don't get me started on cosplay

Hahahahaha.

I'm not attacking all gamers at all, every needs downtime, but like I said above, moderation and RPG's don't exactly go hand in hand

Oh god, he's dropped to a whole new level .

That is what i thought, was quite an amusing thread(not necessarily for the right reasons) but now it is embarrassing and i feel that nothing else really needs saying, though i might chip in again at a later point if hilarity reappears.

EDIT- And barely seconds later.....

Skyrim is only good because a bunch of people say it is

ROFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I couldn't make that up in hundred years

Yes, but a game that clearly has an end like FPS'ers dont last as long

Thats opinion, Skyrim is only good because a bunch of people say it is, doesn't mean that everyone in the world must like it surely?

OMG no one said that. Not one person said this was the best game in the world. We are saying if you like RPG's then you will like this. If you don't like RPG's you won't. Christ man

I don't play skyrim to complete quests or level up. I play it because I enjoy it, just like any other game!

What has duration got to do with anything:confused:? No one is saying everyone in the world must like it :p but it is probably fair to say most people who like RPG games will enjoy this game.

He seems to think we do 300 hours straight and never go outside. When in fact most of us only play for a couple of hours a night, just like everyone else. I also play bf3 and have batman on pre-order.

Now we're getting down to what I was trying to find out 4 pages ago, why do you play it if you don't get a sense of accomplishment from it?

Then the reasonable conclusion would be that perhaps for you it isn't worth buying.

I played WOW for a week or so before getting fed up clicking the mouse and the terrible graphics made my eyes bleed.

All my work mates play MW/BF online but I get fed up with getting killed every 30 seconds and doing the same old thing every night didn't appeal to me.

I love Skyrim for reasons I don't feel the need to justify.

If you dont like RPGs then don't fret about it. Just as I don't lose a second's sleep over not wanting to play BF3 and MW3 or WOW or FIFA... Play what you want to play and enjoy what you like playing. Simple.

It's like you're asking the meaning of life.

Go and have some dinner or something, this isn't productive at all.

Erm, no. It IS a good game. Opinion determines whether you like it or not, not whether it's a good game or not.

According to what criteria? That's an entirely different argument. Video-game reviews are an utter joke - perhaps the worst of all critical industries. No other area of cultural review is in such tatters as video-game journalism. Heaven forbid we try to dissect what exactly makes a game 'good' by objective-fact as opposed to creative, subjective hype-hysteria. I don't think any release in recent years has earned its high-marks in review and collective opinion by any rigorous review. Every game these last few years has been, simply, a marketing success. Huge amounts of hype and advertising profile, met by huge initial reception... and then the void.

The criteria is very very simple. If you like the genre then yes it is great, that is the only criteria that is needed.
