Skyrim ...Is it any good ?

i don't even consider this to be a game. its truly awful. with so many other games out you could do much better then this

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but it would be nice if you could qualify your statement?

What in particular do you not enjoy - is it the RPG elements, or because there are no rocket launchers as weapons? Do you prefer other type of RPG? If so, which ones? Do you prefer shooters and you find RPGs boring (fair point if you do) ?

OK guys, I've never played any kind of RPG except the old Indiana Jones ones 15 years ago :-) I just don't like the mysticism and weird characters and magic, etc. That said, I might give it a try, getting a bit bored of FPS. Is the setting still realistic enough for me to become involved on the story? (I hate Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, etc., yes, I'm one of those rare characterss)

im about 50 hours in and still have around 20-30 quests , about 20-30 misc quests and i havent got very far in the main story either.

to much content! porbably going to take around 100 hours to do everything and its not like other games where the side missions feel like side missions.

It's a game which in my eyes won't receive much criticism as it's really enjoyable. Even if people say graphics are top notch, they are still really really good and once more mods come out it will be even better. Long live Skyrim

This.

Skyrim has admittedly got some flaws. But it's just such an incredible game to play, people won't criticise it, because the good, massively outweighs the bad.

I am not sure you will like this then, if I was you I would try to see it playing first before you waste your money.

It's an RPG based in a fantasy world.

No, you won't like it.

The size and depth of the game is mind boggling, it's clear the guys who made it loved what they were putting together.

Good point there! :)

There are so many little touches in this game that could be so easily overlooked/missed and have no value to the end product. Yet they still included/developed them, most over games I've played put in the minimum to give the impression of a large game but in reality their not (Deus Ex i'm looking at you :p)

I'm not a huge RPG fan due to the amount of knowledge and learning needed just to complete the first mission then spend 30mins walking somewhere else not to do a damn thing.

What makes Skyrim feel different to me is the blend of all the systems, at the moment I honestly have no idea what the main quest is. It's probably easy to find out via the quest log but I'm not really that fussed atm due to it feeling like I am actually living in the game talking to random people and helping them out or slaughtering them :p

That is what makes Skyrim feel great to me, the whole immersion and blend of all the leveling, crafting, communication, quest, exploration systems. I don't think any game before this has been able to blend all these systems into 1 immersive experience.

I loved Fallout 3 & NV, but prefer a modern scenario. Will I enjoy this?

Yea I reckon so.
With me it's the inverse - I prefer the " ye olden fantasy" scenario, and loved Fallout 3.
As I mentioned earlier, this feels bigger/more rewarding and encourages you more to explore and do other things - more so than Fallout 3 did.

Its ruddy brilliant!

I can see it toppling Red Dead Redemption as my all time favourite RPG - and i played RDR A LOT.

It really has got it all and im only just starting to realise (at lvl 21) just how much there is to do.

Exactly, it's the small things that make a big difference in Skyrim. It keeps things continually fresh. Every location can be roamed and looked at in detail and you NEVER have one of those copy/paste moments where you're not sure if you've been somewhere before or if it's just a copy of another location you have been to.

Sure the graphics aren't BF3 but once you've become immersed in the world they're actually really nice and suit the game and still make you stop to view the vistas and be impressed by them. I wouldn't say the graphics are a weakness just that it's such an awesome game with amazing locations that if the graphics were better it would be EVEN MORE awesome. :)

I've always preferred more Post apocalyptic, robots with sci-fi crazy guns and stuff and haven't ever been in to ye oldie thar be a dragon I'll poke it with a wooden stick type settings but since playing I've done a total switch.

It would be like refusing a date with Elisha Cuthbert because she had a spot on her arm.

EDIT: I should probably use the multi + button..

Yeah, watching some videos now. I can see why people like it so much but it's probably just not for me, guess I'll stick with BF3, the new Batman, etc. Too bad, sometimes I really wish I would be more open-minded towards fantasy worlds but it just doesn't do it for me. Might get the missus into it though :)
I remember really enjoying the Indiana Jones quests in the early video games at the time when I was a kid and I loved all the exploring. Is there any similar RPG that doesn't involve slaying dragons and casting spells?
