Sleeping aids

Do you find your mind is active?

I've found that if I write out my thoughts or electronically whats buzzing around my head at the time (it doesn't even have to make any sense) it helps my mind relax a lot and I get off to sleep quicker.

That and a fap, of course.

Sometimes when I worry, it takes an ages to get off to sleep. Do you have anything like that going on?

As Phate has said, probably the best thing to do (And what I do also) is to write them down on a pad or something.

I'm just speaking from recent personal experience. A really bad break up left my head in pieces pretty much and bar either drinking myself into a stupor I found this was the only way I could get to sleep.

do any of you use any aids for sleeping? I am having a rough time getting to sleep quickly. There nothing medically wrong and I don't want to take medication.

So does anyone know of any good natural aids to falling asleep?

by natural aids do you include things you consume - in which case why not medication too?

some herbal tea supposedly helps you relax

(hope it is OK to mention the below as we're not talking about a medical issue and these can be bought without prescription)

1st gen antihistamines will make you feel drowsy - boots will sell you one under the brand 'sleepeaze' 25mg or 50mg...

no longer used for hayfever much as non drowsy alternatives are available now - but the drowsy side effect is useful for people with trouble sleeping

As said already, writing is a great way of dealing with a busy mind. You get everything in your head down on paper and you can sleep without the worry of forgetting everything.

Don't drink coffee/tea/fizzy drinks past a certain point.
Go for a stroll in the evening
have a small snack 30 mins before bed.
hot shower/bath
take socks off your feet an hour before bed, 15 mins before bed put a nice comfortable pair on and keep them on

This is quite good too:

Have a physically and mentally busy day, then stop doing things for a while before trying to sleep.

Recently I've found stretching a little can help, as you can sometimes stiffen up a bit lying in bed with is uncomfortable.

Do enough physical work in the day to make yourself tired at night. When you get the balance right you can be asleep in a minute or two.

Get up early, go to bed late.

Strong booze.

Hit on the head with a shovel.

Or fap till your eyes bleed! :D

On a serious note, give your body time to close down. Doing nothing physical for a couple of hours before bed lets you relax. Try not to eat just before bed and try to avoid coffee / tea or anything with a lot of sugar from around about 6PM onwards.

Try a hot bath about an hour or so before bed too, I find that usually knocks me out.

Not all sleeping medicine are bad there is a lot to choose from. I take one that helps me fall asleep as I sometimes take hours but have no problem staying asleep once I do fall asleep. As it is temporary help it doesnt make you sleepy next day and it also doesnt make you depend on it. But you would need to talk to a doctor if you decided on that help. Actually it would be good to talk to a doctor anyways.

But if you really dont want to go that way then I suggest go to bed same time every single day and have alarm at same time every morning. It can help your body get into that pattern and help you sleep.

* No TV/PC in the room, tablets/phones either.
* Dark as you can get it.
* Quiet as you can get it, but if there's outside noise put a constant sound on e.g. ticking clock, white noise or even a radio turned down load.
* Keep it colder than other rooms - 18 degrees or so.
* Fap or read a book, or both!
* Sleep.

The whole tea/coffee thing is a bit of a myth, caffeine doesn't keep you away, it just makes you more alert, you can fall asleep fine. I have tea before bed most nights.

A sock.

Edit:
Quiet as you can get it, but if there's outside noise put a constant sound on e.g. ticking clock, white noise or even a radio turned down load.

I'd end up smashing the ticking clock

Yes, the main thing is not to buy something that is considered addictive. E.g. if you buy Nytol, get the herbal version. On the contrary, Night Nurse will be addictive because it is an actual sleeping medicine - you use that sparingly e.g. for flu.

I disagree with the fap comments though but I think it's subjective. I can't sleep for 2 hours afterwards.

I usually go chamomile tea a couple hours before, with a couple 5HTP.
Clipper Sleep Easy tea about half hour before bed also...

Seems to be doing the job.

Edit: Mix L Theanine in with the chamomile tea for maximum relax.

That 5htp gave me feature film length vivid dreams ,never known anything like it
