Sleeping Dogs

How did this game get so many good reviews? Played it for 2 hours and all I could think to myself was 'another generic sandbox game'. OK the Story is a little interesting but the rest has been done before.

May I ask you, what games do you play that are 100% original?
Probably none, it has good reviews because it is a good game, a good PC port and also, a small developer.

Umm, maybe because it is the best sandbox title of the generation right next to RDR? But I am sure your opinion made after 2 hours is the only one most valid and important in the whole multiverse, of course.

a good game is a bad reason for a good review

My point is saying the game is a good PC port doesn't justify it being a 'good game'. Gameplay, sound, graphics, lastability etc make a game. OK being a good port ticks a box in the gameplay field but looking at the game from a wider angle I don't understand what's so good about it. Apart from the Hong Kong setting and believable environments, that game doesn't stand out to me.

Well the graphics are excellent, sound is excellent (both voice acting and soundtrack) the story is excellent, gameplay is good to excellent (vehicles could be better but the combat is ace). Maybe it's just not your type of game but surely from the nearly overwhelming positive opinions you must be able to see why it reviewed well?

Maybe I'm not explaining myself clearly. All those are valid points, but how is this game taht different from other sandbox titles like GTA and that one where your an Asian cop in New York with Bullet Time in the game play.

how is call of duty different to Halo? Games can have similar mechanics and still be different games. Sleeping Dogs is far more story driven than GTA is, you play a cop, not a criminal, the combat is entirely different as is the driving, the locations is different.

Not sure what other game you're refering about, Stranglehold? That wasn't even a sandbox game

Oh, well you know this started out as a True Crime title? So hardly surprising they're similar. It was 7 years ago, are games not allowed sequels now

I sort of agree with elrasho. IMO there is nothing really special about this game and I certainly wouldn't say GOTY, well for me anyway. I much preferred mafia 2 overall. The combat is good but when compared to batman arkham city/arkham asylum it is pretty poor overall. Guns? I think I maybe used a gun like 5 times in total :p Story was good, but again nothing unique really. The voice acting and sound is good. The graphics are nothing special either IMO (mostly max and a couple medium presets, I will say though that the game runs superb on my 4850 512MB, i5 750 at 1080P), although when it is raining/wet they look spectacular then and the location is great. I liked how it wasn't the exact same thing over and over again, the driving was pretty good as well.

I did enjoy this game overall (enjoyed the first true crime game on the xbox a lot) and usually I am not too keen on these sort of games, at first wasn't too keen on it though, but it got better after an hour or so. Definitely better than the latest GTA games though.

I find the combat better than Batman's to be honest. It's a little less spammy and there are more moves to use. It's also bone crunchingly satisying (the leg breaks ) and the environment finishers are good fun.
