SLI/CF is microstutter an issue for you?

V3teran you're really exaggerating the numbers tbh. Hardly anyone has cards capable of running those extreme AA profiles, how many people do you think actually have TITANS and 690's? The 680's struggle with just 4xAA in some new titles.

You also have to think that newer AA methods are being brought out that have much less of an impact performance wise, hopefully these will improve over the next few years.

I though this was an Enthusiast forum? If not ill get my coat:)

TXAA look what happened to that......im still waiting for it.

Enthusiasts strive for performance and image quality.
Yeah and TXAA as far as im aware is broken and is still inferior to SGSSAA:)

No I think you'll find real enthusiasts, those who benchmark are much more concerned with performance than how the image looks.

TXAA isn't broken, it's not as good as SGSSAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA no but it also doesn't gimp your FPS if you can't shed out thousands of pounds for graphics cards.

TXAA is a combination of hardware anti-aliasing, a custom anti-aliasing resolve, and a temporal filter.

Which means it cant and never be injected like SMAA and FXAA can be.

TXAA needs to be implemented at developers level which is a negative as not all games will support it.

It also has blurry/shimmering image not as much as FXAA (although that is debateable) but its noticeable and cannot be fixed with LOD Bias because it isnt injected and its hardware based so MSAA+SGSSAA is better visually but costs more performance wise.

The results can be seen if you google for images comparing both.

I would rather use SMAA than TXAA tbh combined with SweetFX.
FXAA is a poor mans AA and i would never use it because of the horrible blur, I would rather have the Jaggies, TXAA isnt that much better tbh.

If you want the best AA you have to pay for it with your Vram!

That's all well and good in your opinion but I saw nothing wrong with TXAA in the new crysis, SMAA and MSAA gave a slightly crisper image but certainly not something I could notice once moving around.

It all depends on the user and what they actually want or need.
If im spending £1000's on hardware I want THE BEST!!;)
I want my hardware to work damn hard and provide me with the best visual and performance ratio possible.
Nothing is wasted on my end, It all gets used to its maximum!

The thing is those extreme AA profiles are all well and good for single player, but if I'm playing an FPS game on my 144hz monitor I want to be achieving as close to 144fps as I can. There is a lot of talk about AA adding input lag as well, Linus discussed this and he's tested a lot of myths/theories in the past and he agrees.

Yeah 144HZ/FPS is something else, You need even more power especially if you want to run all of the above that we talked about.

Input lag maybe so, It can be countered by using Pre-rendered frames settings but even so we are talking input lag in Milliseconds, hardly noticeable tbh, Not enough to destroy your gameplay.

Please show me a system that can hold 144fps at your extreme AA settings then.

If the input lag is noticeable then it is enough to destroy your experience in fast paced FPS games, what would be the point going 144hz to then add these silly extreme AA profiles that counter against the lower input lag from the faster monitor.

Im sure 4x Titans probably could give it a good run atleast at 4xMSAA+SGSSAA.

It also depends on the game, You could easily play Jet Set Willy or The Curse of Sherwood at those settings but BF3 would be more difficult depending on hardware.:)

120hz fully capped with all visual delights is still relatively new.
Remember when 60fps was new around 2008 and people were saying you dont need it 30fps is fine blah blag blah.

Well here we are and 30fps is meh, I cant play any game at 30fps, 60fps is now the standard.

In 2008 the new standard was 1920*1080 while most people were on or upgrading from 1600*1200 etc.

We are already seeing many people move up again to 1400p and 1600p on many gaming forums across the net.

Many people are also using downsampling for high resolution outputs that is not officially supported on there monitor.

The advent of newer and faster technology will see the gap becoming smaller for 120hz as standard, There are already people playing at huge resolutions like greg and kaap.

4k screens will become available....dont know when.

120Hz IPS screens are already aiming to becoming standard and Dell is said to be working on an 120hz IPS monitor right now.

The fact is we wont be gaming at 60hz forever, pretty soon 120hz will start to become more widestream, Thats evolution for you, As soon as things stop evolving its Game Over.

People like Visual quality as well as performance, if you dont like, Are not aware or arnt really interested in the visual quality that a high-end PC can produce when tweaked properly with the right hardware running then i suggest you sell your PC and go buy an Xbox or PS3.

And Suarez i know you like Visuals because i remember you the other day commenting in an Nvidia driver thread saying that you use Quadro drivers for there improved quality over WHQL's or Beta's so dont pretend to me that you dont care about visuals.

I remember things that people say even if it was 6 months ago i would still remember:)

Wrong, I said the quadro drivers supposedly had better image quality from reports over at guru3d, I actually use the quadro drivers as they have better stability and stopped some of the stutter I was seeing in Battlefield 3. Looks like that memory of yours isn't too good, better get some DDR4 when it comes out.

Ok i got it slightly wrong but i knew it was to that effect, Yeah and you would say you use them for stability now wouldnt you, How convenient.
DDR4 Haha.

What card(s) do you have Suarez?

No I said the other day they were for stability and to stop stutter, I tried them when I read the thread and seen it had helped others in Battlefield 3.

I use a 680 if it matters but I'm selling this rig to my brother and getting a 7970 system soon.

Oh ok just wondering what card(s) you had.
Anyhow im off to spend some time with the Wife and enjoy a glass of wine or two.

Goodnight all and Goodnight Rusty, I hope Rusty i have educated and helped you with your limited knowledge in Visual tweaking:D

Cool story bro, might wanna add some SGSSAA to her wine glass.

I hope for some warmer weather soon. It seems some people are not happy at the mo and it could be down to a lack of sun. Roll on the spri...Oh wait, roll on the Summer :)
