thinking about a plaything budget up to £1500

ideally want something small chuckable and quite quick

thoughts so far

punto GT
alfa 145 ? wtf?
AX GT (most likely with a saxo vtr/s lump retro fitted
saxo vts

as you can see small hot/warm hatch backs are the flavour

also considered a e30(difficult to find a decent one) and e36's but i feel they lack the fun factor

any suggestions on things i may have missed out ? not fussed on fwd/rwd/4wd na/turbo'd as long as it offers up lots of fun and wont break the bank

Don't buy a Punto GT.

I doubt a hot £1500 Alfa 145 will be any good.

What's that Citreon that has a horrible front but is cheap and quite quick?

Edit: Everyone beat me to it, Xsara VTS.

phase 1 172, are they really this cheap?

xsara vts erm for some reason i cant bring myself to even think about one of those, a 306-gti6 yes the mechanically identical bar gearbox xsara no dont know why though

for some reason i want a punto gt turbo just the trouble of finding a non chavved example

that said a mates trying to tempt me with his 9-3 atm 220 bhp and matching torques but it leaves me cold for some reason just like the xsara i dunno cant explain it, just they dont do it for me

think the problem is i'm a child of the 80's

to me a R5 GTT or a 205 gti would be ideal

been there done that with the 205 and a R5 is just too long in the tooth and too rare (well good un chavved versions)

hmmm decisions decisions

maybe a nice clio 16v mk1 or if i can find one in budget a phase 1 172 with no interior ;)

ugly?

remember i'm a man who quite likes his vectra and thinks of it as a rather nice car :)

Used to park next to a nice metallic red/brown vectra at work, it looked great tbh. One one I've seen in that colour though

I like Fiats, I've only ever owned Fiats.

Please don't buy a Punto GT.

How about an MX-5?

i did quite fancy a s2000 till my non fault accident meant i'd be looking at scary insurance for anything with that high a grouping damn you insurance companies, that and i'm probably 5 1/2 grand short in terms of budget

What about an 03 plate Leon Cupra R in yellow?

Seriously you've already got one hot hatch, why not go on holiday instead or something instead of buying some old nail.

Thats not a hot-hatch, its a sensible 5 door family car for the school run and what not was mildly entertaining when the coilovers were wound right down and she was stripped out, but raising the ride height back to something approaching sensible levels, and the wife demanding that the interior went back in she sort of lost the appeal. its a nice reliable 5 door hatchback. for family duties. nothing more. and the wifes made it her own i only get to play with it when something either is making a funny noise or the fuel guage reads empty
