Smart Fortwo DCT Mechanical Problem

Yeh I never said anything about how you spend your money - like you said, that's your lookout. I was simply addressing the part where you were trying justify to yourself that £7.50 Mercedes screws were somehow much better than Chinese specials and that's why they cost so much more.
The reason they’re so expensive is because they’re not exclusively Smart parts, they are Mercedes parts aimed at people who own expensive Mercedes vehicles who can afford to pay the ludicrous asking price. They just happen to fit Smart cars as well, most Smart exclusive parts are reasonably priced.

Here’s an interesting discussion on the merits of buying a Mercedes OEM bolt costing £9 vs a cheaper bolt from the hardware store costing £1.

Take from it what you will.

Pretty much irrelevant, a suspension arm will be subjected to considerable loads when cornering etc. An undertray bolt just isn’t unless someone decides to drive through a deep puddle, even then I suspect the undertray was just ripped off and the bolts were still there

Yes but a decade old post about structural suspension bolts is very relevant to new screws holding on less than 2kg of plastic, didn't you know?

It's fun watching the OP struggle with this though, the fact he's still trying to figure it out after all this brings me great amusement.

Let's be honest, he'll be driving an Aston Martin in 25 years time and still be contemplating which screws to get for the undertray on his Smart :p

Which bit broke off of yours that requires both parts to be replaced with new?
I don’t know, I never had a look under the car. I’m only going by the technicians report which said that both front and rear under trays were damaged with parts hanging off.

I reckon a mechanic could tell you he'd have to plow your wife to diagnose your car and you'd let him :p
I’ve no reason to distrust the technician why would I? I’m more concerned that it’s been two months since the rear under tray was ordered and it still hasn’t arrived.

I'm waiting for a front grille for an insurance repair and there's no ETA from the supplier. Joys of supply chains being broken post COVID.

Yeah we had a rear end bump back in november in our Nissan Leaf, we didn't get the car back until early feb of this year, had to get the rear bumper and trim imported over from Japan (according to the repair company), crazy to think such parts are not readily in stock for a vehicle that's still on sale today.

Yeah I did consider that they may be having trouble getting parts for my car as its the petrol version which is no longer on sale. However they do have the front under tray and I believe the electric version which is still on sale uses the same under tray parts.

Its therefore good to know I'm not the only one having difficulty getting hold of parts.
