Smart Fortwo DCT Mechanical Problem

do you know definitively that they are bolts , with a uniform thread, as opposed to self tapping type bolts , with a pointy end, that screw into a piece of spring steel ?
the tray fixing post picture doesn't look like bolts, and the washer doesn't look like a washer - looks like a bad translation, if anything.
... leastaways you get the pointy ones on bmw bumper/tray fixings.

e: like these - didn't know they are called spire clips

e2: even more plausible for clips type ... they're not giving these away

I probably need everything on this parts list…

https://www.catcar.info/mercedes/smart

But they refuse to accept that list as it’s not an official website. So far I’ve got them to accept that the securing bolts are M6x20, I’m sure when it goes in they will find out that they don’t have everything they need and will either have the parts available or have to order them in.

It could get quite expensive. Just bad luck this happened in the first place.

Honestly just stop. It's going to the dealer they'll get it fitted one way or another.

Now all you're going to be doing is stressing yourself out and annoying the garage.

Why do you think you know better than Mercedes who will have their own parts diagram?
I don't think he does .. just some stupid contributions in this thread where people who've never taken cars apart think standard 5pence bolts will be fine,

but if nlel had found access to the real parts diagram maybe it would be less ambiguous.

I work with nuts and bolts on a daily basis I have some of my van under tray bolts in my toolbox. What’s so special about them?

yes the bolts(really screws), are available cheap, but only half the story, the receiving nut/clips/brackets are elaborate, and the correct ones are relatively expensive.

As a DIYer you might build the appropriate bracket cheaply, or, maybe, use zip ties, but doubt many garages adopt that approach.

Maybe if they were load bearing I could understand your point but they hold a flimsy bit plastic trim, so any bolt should be more than adequate.

Nobody was advising replacing anything specialised or elaborate with something different, but the little black self tapping screws aren't anything special.
