Just turn stuff off at the wall, it'll use tumble dryer in emergencies and don't overfill the kettle.. pretty simple really if you want to save power.
That said, there's nothing common about sense. No doubt the cost of these things will be added to your bill, along with a cheeky profit margin all in the name of helping the customer.
More infuriatingly I was given one a few years back, and I don't know if the technology has improved but I could never get it to work properly.
Just another power company con, milk the customer a little bit more and show the authorities they are being fair at the same time.. It's a win win for the big 6.
