Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

So how's everyone getting on with their smart watch after a few weeks?

Still enjoying it, initial shine has worn off but I'm still wearing it over my normal watch so that says something since I love my usual one. I'm more looking forward to what's to come with Android L, which I'm hoping will bring a lot more integration and uses but even as it is, it's pretty cool and useful.

kind of bewildered theses things don't have gps - thought one of the main points of smart watches was for fitness etc but now with a smart watch you need 2 pieces of technology with you instead of one?
guess its early days for them yet...

I have the Strava app on Google Glass and it works well in real time when I run or ride. It tracks with GPS/Bluetooth connection to my Nexus 5 to analyse my performance, set new goals and provide stats like distance, speed, elevation, calories burned, etc.

Imagine how long the battery would last if they had gps...

imagine releasing a watch where the battery only lasts one day in the first place.
I'm all for new tech but this doesn't appear to be anywhere near ready yet if it doesn't do GPS nor can last longer than a day

Give it time, remember the first batch of smartphones? They weren't that popular until the first iPhone appeared. Even then it only had the basics, but over time the smartphone evolved and pretty much does nearly everything we want. I expect smartwatches to follow a similiar route, at the moment GPS takes a lot of power and on a smartwatch it will just destory it, but hopefully in a few years better battery technology and more power efficient GPS will be avaliable.

I don't really see the issue. I put my phone on charge each night, I put my watch on charge each night...

OnePlus - the Chinese manufacturer behind the excellent OnePlus One - is reportedly working on a circular smartwatch called the OneWatch.

According to BGR's source, the OneWatch will land with a circular sapphire glass display. If true, we expect its visibility to hold up well in sunlight, and take every beating that life throws its way, thanks to sapphire's incredible toughness.

Wireless charging and a curved battery are also on the cards, meaning no unsightly microUSB ports to spoil the design, and a leather strap and titanium construction should earn the OneWatch major design points.

If the ONO is anything to go by the distribution will suck for this and people will be waiting almost a year for an invite to get one, therefore even though it's exciting to see a competitor (more likely a clone of the Moto 360) I'm going to get the Moto 360 instead.
