Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Give it time, remember the first batch of smartphones? They weren't that popular until the first iPhone appeared. Even then it only had the basics, but over time the smartphone evolved and pretty much does nearly everything we want. I expect smartwatches to follow a similiar route, at the moment GPS takes a lot of power and on a smartwatch it will just destory it, but hopefully in a few years better battery technology and more power efficient GPS will be avaliable.

But smart phones allowed us to do loads of things on the move that we couldn't previously. But as far as I can tell a smart watch just saves you placing your hand in your pocket to get you phone for the odd thing. I can't really see what they're going to do that will make it a must have?

Well £160-£180 is cheaper then many expected. Some were speculating around £250 would be the price.

I think if it does end up being around the £180 mark that's pretty fair value for money considering the materials and reported build quality.

The Gear Live is $200 on Bestbuy, £170 over here. You think the 360, $250 on Bestbuy will be just £180? Good luck! :)

I would say at least £200.

$250 is £150, but then we have to add 20% which makes it £180. So £180 would be an exact match... which we know never happens and everyone always gets very carried away with.

But then the LG G Watch is $229 so being £159 over here is ever so slightly cheaper than it 'should' be converting dollars to pounds + vat, so who knows...

Of course, being Motorola, it'll be released in the states and we won't see it until at least 2016 :p

I managed to be a fool and lose my pebble in the gym last week, so it looks like I'll have to treat myself to one of these as a replacement!

I'll hold off to see what the 360 is like, and if there are any other watches released to compete with it, but the 360 looks like it will be the one to go for!

Yeah I reckon 199.99 in the UK. I seem to recall the marketing guy saying it would be available 'globally' in Summer 2014 but you never know about things like manufacturing yields etc, if stock is limited then it'd make sense to keep as much in the US until at least after Thanksgiving.

From the very sheepish picture we have of the Asus and full image of the LG the moto 360 is still the best looking. Roll on the 4th already. Hoping for them to say its available for order on the 5th.

The Asus is rumoured to be uber-cheap though, iirc it was touted as being in the "99-149 dollars" bracket, so significantly cheaper than any of the other watches, that might tempt me just because I'm not overly sure on smartwatches just yet.

I kinda don't get the love for the 360 either, yeah it looks quite good but also kinda huge, both in height off the wrist but also the overall face of the watch. I also always get drawn to the non-screen bit at the bottom, I know why it's there but it just jumps out at me in pictures/videos and I just think it's wrong.

So I have had my Samsung gear live since the UK launch date and I love it ..... So far it has worked really well the only moan I have is you do not seem to be able to buy extra charging clips for them as I would like to have an emergency one in the car for when I am away .....
