Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

Well I had no interest in these and still probably wouldn't get one at the moment, but that LG has certainly turned my head, something like that could tempt me.

Starting to worry now as the rumor is the Moto360 will be a US launch only with others to follow a month later. The bay will be flooded with imported watches in no time :/

Sony Smartwatch 3: http://blog.gsmarena.com/sony-updates-wearables-new-smartwatch-3-smartband-talk/

The SmartWatch 3 sports a 1.6″ Transflective LCD screen of 320 x 320px resolution. The processor is of the quad-core 1.2GHz variety, while there will be 4GB of onboard storage and 512MB of RAM. The 420mAh battery is rated for up to 4 days of standby, or 2 days under “typical usage.”

Sony touts that the SmartWatch 3 will be able to automatically detect when you’re asleep, and even perform various tasks like tracking fitness or playing music without having to be paired with a smartphone (although you’ll have to pair if you want to sync your run into Sony’s Lifelog app).

Both devices come with IP68 water and dust resistance, so you’ll be able to perform a wide range of fitness activities. The SmartWatch 3 will be available for €229, while the SmartBand Talk can be had for €159. Both will be coming this autumn.

Not liking the look of it, I prefer the design on the Smartwatch 2. And that default watchface... looks really plain...

So that's LG, Samsung, Motorola, Sony and Asus in the Android Wear race, who's next?

I didn't really expect Google to add support for standalone GPS tbh, let alone at least one manufacturer releasing a device with in-built GPS so soon, I'd imagine that's great for runners...

Presumably the Transflective screen is the same as the smartwatch 2 which got pretty favourable reviews iirc? And should be good for battery life.

Yeah, hopefully the GPS can do a good couple of hours tracking with they watch still lasting at least a day, they claim 2 days usage which implies that might work out ok, but we'll see.

With it being Motorola I'd be shocked if it's anything other than a US-only launch...

I'd be amazed. Have you ever used Google Navigation with your phone not charging? Even my note three drops around 30% in an hour's use.

For me, if it can last an hour GPS tracking and still have 40% or so left, I'd be happy enough. I could probably go cycling after work and it would last. If I really needed it for the evening, I would stick it on charge briefly.

Mind you, when I cycle, I listen to music and track my heart rate via a BT HRM. I can't see a watch replacing my phone for fitness tracking any time soon.
