Smartwatch Thread (news/apps/updates)

I'm on the verge of ordering a Galaxy Watch. I'e generally wanted to avoid Tizen, but it seems to be the best watch about at the moment. It might be handy having Samsung Pay on it, but at the same time I only really want an always on display and my notifications, so the Galaxy Watch might be overkill. I'm not bothered by health features really. Any recommendations?

(My current Huawei seems to stop charging at 66%. Maybe I just need a new charger?)

tizen IMO is much better than android wear.

works better as a watch OS and UX is next level compared to Wear OS.

my huawei watch has been sitting in a box while my S3 frontier is back on my wrist.

I have the Galaxy Wear and whilst I was a bit bummed about not being able to use Samsung Pay (halifax and lloyds accounts) its blown every smart watch I have seen away. Battery life is stunning (46mm) and with a new strap really looks smart. I use all the health features as it helps me get my fat arse into gear and I can even control powerpoints with it which is cool. I just wish it had Google Assistant integration - that would be the balls.

Any Poweramp users here? For some reason my HW2 is not showing the music notification any more for the app. Works fine with Google Music/Default Sony one though.

EDIT: Tried reinstalling the app, still doesn't work. Tried the Notification fixer for Oreo and it doesn't fix it either.

However noticed there's now a RC build for v3 and my Wear OS music control is now back for it. Did Google change something that stops supporting legacy music apps?

Poweramp is working fine with my Misfit Vapor. I'm using the latest beta builds so i don't know if that makes a difference

You could get a Starling card that works on Samsung Pay .. Its what I did rather than swap banks I just top it up every so often to use on my Gear Watch and previously the S3 Frontier

Well to my surprise my G Watch R just got Wear 2.0. even though its listed as not getting it. Still on July '17 security patch though!

I'm hanging on for a watch with an esim - what I want is a watch that let's me leave the phone behind on occasion. I'm guessing the galaxy lte will be the one to go for but no sign of it yet (and yeah i'm on EE so this should add up well..).

So I'm using a different USB port to charge my watch and now it charges all the way to 100% again...

I would perhaps still like a new watch but I'll wait and see what is announced next week I guess.

Well I scratched my Amazfit Bip, which I'm not surprised about. It's one of the reasons I stopped wearing watches as a teenager.

I'm not sure I'll bother investing in a proper smartwatch after all. As I don't want to risk it on a £200 watch.

I was going to say don't you just need sapphire glass, albeit $$ ?
however spotted this interesting article that they are more reflective/less-transmissive http://www.displaymate.com/Apple_Watch_ShootOut_2.htm
so I wonder what they would look like in my regular swimming pool

[keep seeing the new apple 4 watch advert https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ms4yxJcvW3s
which shows thayt apple users as a group of clones - don't get it ]

Does anyone have the Huawei Watch 2? How does the 4G aspect work, do I need to order a duplicate SIM to use with it? Or, is Bluetooth sufficient (it's a fair bit cheaper).

do I need to order a duplicate SIM

AFAIK in the UK (I might be out of date on this information) you can't have more than one device registered on a network at the same time using the same (duplicate) SIM.

4G on the watch allows it to go stand alone and needs its own separate SIM plan/number (though on some networks you might be able to share a data allowance with another device and/or use one number features).
