Smashing Pumpkins touring UK

I've been a long time fan ever since I bought Siamese Dream when it was in the 'just released' section of my former local music shop. I was never fortunate enough to attend a SP concert when they were in their hay day, so couldn't pass up the opportunity to see them this time around although after the show last night, I almost wish I hadn't bothered.

It was amazing seeing him live and I'm happy that I can now say I have, but it certainly wasn't worth the £40 quid my wife and I each paid for tickets.

Don't get me wrong, half of the show was just amazing as Billy belted out many of the songs which got me through my teenage years. The audience would go nuts each time he played one of his 'known' songs and the extended guitar and drum solos were amazing. His new band may be very very young, but don't let that fool you, they're pretty damn good.

Unfortunately though, the other half of the show was new and unreleased material, which other than a couple songs, I just wasn't a fan of. It appeared to me that I wasn't the only one who felt this way either as 70% of the audience just stood around talking to each other during most of it.

I can understand that he wants to play his new and experimental stuff, but the show would have been so so much better had he played 1/3 new stuff and 2/3 old.

Saw them at Brixton last night and really enjoyed it! I also went in with low expectations, but to my surprise i was really enjoying the new material. Unfortunately the crowd were awful, bunch of boring idiots just stood still even through the classics. Billy's voice just blew me away, sounds amazing on record but 100 times better live, amazing range and tone that guy has. Band were tight, sound was awesome, not the best performance as they generally stood still but I didn't find it boring. New stuff sounded really good, great mix of heavy and nice and melodic. For the encore they belted out Zero and Bullet and my friends and I were going crazy!

So glad I got to see them and ignored all the haters. Billy just does his own thing, which I kinda like. He's never been about impressing people or trying to be popular so why should he tour like some past it covers band, Zeitgeist was good and he's got some good new material from the sounds of it. No other singer these days has such an amazing unique voice, carry on I say!

The split seemed to be around 2/3ish old music but the choice of old music is what got many people I think. Being a huge fan in the past I was familiar with all of the old stuff they played but some of the people I was with just really knew the old hits. Hearing songs from Pisces was just great.
