smokers

i go tot the gym and have fag when i leave, whats wrong with that i know someone who used to run the london to brighton road race(54miles) and he smoked. a lot of altheletes smoke

well the fact that a gym suggests an interest in ones health and a cigarette suggests a complete disregard for ones health, it is a bit contradictory.

good for your mate, but it will affect his performance as his lung capacity will drop. it affects people in different ways, some will have severe symptoms while others will appear healthy.

I carry a portable bonfire around with me so that everyone can choke and die from the thick plume of smoke.

it is not "pussy" to not want lung cancer etc. well i hope you are still enjoying it when you are on oxygen, struggling to get your breath, unable to walk, and slowly painfully dying. you need to grow up, smokers affect many people and they should stay at home. btw oxygen stealer works in 2 ways, 1 you are not worth the oxygen in the air you use, and 2 your cigarette burning uses oxygen.

I love the anti-smoker threads here on OcUK, the pure righteous indignation of the anti-smoker kiddies, the ex-smoker adults and the fitness fanatics.

I read a few posts, go outside the office and have a ciggy while its still allowable for me to do so, and I will enjoy it. Smokers will invariably say they want to stop when faced with this barrage, I however will just not accept it and know that when I really want to quit I will.

If you choose to be in my presence then you accept me as a smoker. If you can manage to be polite (keyboard warrior punch me in the face comments aside) then I will happy to move away because otherwise you will just iritate me with your 'holier than thou' attitude.

Get over it! Anyone would think we wandered down the road in a polution free environment dropping ricin laced stink-bombs.

Very succinct and right on the money. Have a cig on me

For those who like me have never been addicted to nicotine I'll throw something else into the pot.
We have some really terrible weather in this country and very soon winter will be with us but a nicotine addiction is so strong that 100's of people will be lined up outside our factory doors braving the elements for that fix.
I don't think any smoker wants to go through this but it as to be done. So the next time you see a smoker standing outside in the freezing cold weather or heavy rain just think how much that addiction has taken over.

At my work place everybody who smokes hjave atleast 3-4
10 minute cig breaks, they can hide in the smoke room from the bosses and even the bosses are in there aswell.

Non smokers cant have these "breaks" as there is nowhere to hide.

This thread's full of whingeing pansies.

Get a ****ing grip, there's a million more important things in this world to worry about than whether or not someone enjoys a cigarette.

I smoke, I consider myself fairly considerate about it, and if you don't like it and politeness is beyond you (a habit of non-smokers, I find) you can **** off and stand somewhere else.

If someone asks me to move away a bit, smoke outside, blah blah, I will. If you put on an oscar winning sympathy coughing bout and make snide comments, I'll smoke myself sick just to get on your ****.

if you work infront of a computer you are entitled to have a break every hour.

So thats what this is about, you don't have a little room to run off to :p

Aww come on man, sitting in the bog for 10 mins is hardly a "break" - most of the time it stinks in there. I'm sure if you are creative you can find areas to hang out so even the non smoker can have their 10 minute break.

If they've got tft screens and a decent chair then they don't need those breaks. Whining office workers

At our firm, you can smoke on your breaks and that's that. If you dare take a crafty one, you're for the high jump. Which is fair.

I have a TFT and a £900 office chair, that don't stop me bumming off for a wonder every hour. It is important not to spend 8 hours sat in the exact same position

Every break I will go out weather permitting to escape from my work enviroment but theres no way I will stand in freezing weather or pouring rain.
Smokers are truly dedicated and as hard as nails.

The one i hate is when i used to wait as the bus stop and have a seat wating for the bus to arrive when some smoker would sit beside you and light up having no consideration of my health by breathing in that crap

I work in a warehouse.

There is nowhere to hide, the smoke room is above the canteen and you cant be seen unless.

Isnt a warehouse kind of huge? Surely that is one of the best places to play hide and seek with the managers. When I used to work for JS all manner of crazy things used to go on in the warehouse. Most areas couldnt even be picked up by the security cameras, such is the nature of the warehouse.

I don't smoke really as an addiction, more as somthing I like to do on social occasions which is probably a handful about once a month. The reason for that is because what is often neglected to tell you in smoking education is that it does give a buzz. Other drugs are getting increasingly unbiased education saying that whilst it does harm you it does trip you out, calm you down, speed you up etc. I like that rush you get, however I don't want that rush to become a relief where there is tension to need it so I don't smoke that often. I think everyone should try smoking in this way just to see if they like it rather than having a blinkered view that it is evil.

Because of this I am not bothered by it, I can see why people would do it like anything else, I am not really bothered by fag-ends or by smoky environments. Conversely because I am not bothered by it, I can't really see why people get so wound up by it. You can argue about health effects all day but it comes down to the fact that it is someone's choice and they deserve not to be whinged at, insulted and generally treated like filth.

I think the blanket public smoking ban is wrong, it should be up to the establishment to decide that they don't want smoking and as time goes on, more and more non-smoking places will exsist but we will still have that freedom choice.
