smokers

But at least there is no such thing as passive E or Cocaine. ;)

It has been shown though that people with serious addictions to class A drugs tend to commit crimes in order to pay for their next fix. The average person cannot financially afford to consume large quantities of these substances.

So, in general, people are affected by drug habbits of other people.

Yes, but those are social problems and not the direct health related problems that can manifest themselves from passive smoking.

I used to smoke. At work just about everyone puts their cigarettes in the bins. There are two places to smoke and say 300 of 1500 people do so. At 4-5 cigarettes a day at work it only takes a tiny minority of the smokers to drop their tab butts before there are loads of them. One smoker in a week can make a considerable mess. Unfortunately this reflects badly on the people that make the effort and there are plenty of people who do. It's not smokers that are the problem, it's inconsiderate and irresponsible people.

I'll be totally honest though, if there was no bin in the area I would just flick a tab into the road or drop it down a drain. I know it was wrong but I did it anyway. :/

No, but then there will be the next generation of smokers to contend with. I'm afraid that we will ju have to learn to get along with the smokers of this world.

Totaly useless thread been covered time and time again :( - why don't you post something more intresting than your moaning and personal outrage against those people who dare to smoke . - last time I heard it was a free country and until I decide to stop smoking I will continue to do so, if this means that I blow smoke in someone elses air space then so be it. after all you can always walk away or remove yourself from the situation if you dont like it.

After all there are many things in life we dont agree with but you don't have to put with them in many instances there is always alternative . Would like to put it a bit stronger but don't want to break forum rules.

Well you cant really ban alcoholic drinking as this would become very difficult to police. Also any government in a western country that brings prohibition into effect will probably be voted out of power at the earliest opportunity. Not to mention the possibility of riots and overall discontent. So, we must be realistic about what can be banned and what can't.

Myself, I would rather people didnt drink alcohol, smoke or consume recreational drugs, but I'm quite strict on these matters.

I never said it should be banned.

I was just pointing out that he suggested that cigarette smokers are classed as "druggies" so i suggested that alcohol consumers should be classed as the same.

I used to get wound up by the insults hurled at smokers in these threads; pathetic, oxygen stealer (what?), chavs etc etc. As a smoker I enjoy the fact that whiney wee pussies can't handle a bit of passive smoke. I couldn't care less if you think it's killing you, I'm enjoying it. If smokers affect you so badly, stay at home.

What a pathetic attitude

Every non-smoker has the right to stand/sit/walk somewhere else.

every smoker should have the decency not to smoke in public places

it is not "pussy" to not want lung cancer etc. well i hope you are still enjoying it when you are on oxygen, struggling to get your breath, unable to walk, and slowly painfully dying. you need to grow up, smokers affect many people and they should stay at home. btw oxygen stealer works in 2 ways, 1 you are not worth the oxygen in the air you use, and 2 your cigarette burning uses oxygen.

WTF??? Who told you that????? When I was in Delhi, the fumes are 10 times worst than in London. You literally can't breath.

no one told me it thank you, i went to delhi in april and have been there many times before. the pollution used to be very bad but then they converted all buses to natural gas (or something) and are in the process of doing the same to rikshaws (sp?) and the air is much cleaner, possibly more so than london.

I keep saying that one day I will give myself up for medical research.
I was bought up in a very smokey house because my mum smoked like a chimney. From the age of 12 I've gigged in very smokey bars/clubs and have been out at least 3 times a week since 1970 into these smokey enviroments. I've never even touched a packet of cigarettes so if passive smoking can be proved harmful then I'm an excellent subject to test.
I think the term 'peer pressure' is a load of crap. I've hung around with many gangs when I was younger, most of the lads smoked but I was never forced to smoke. When I became an older teenager once again not one person forced me to smoke and didn't make me feel unwelcome if I didn't. I would say that most smokers are addicts before they reach the age of 16 and once under the drug they will use every excuse not to stop. Tying smoking into adult problems is no excuse because they are addicts and non smokers will never know what these people are going through mentally. I've only ever known three adults take up smoking and one was my Dad when he was 44  We lived in Nigeria and he was fed up that he was the only bloke who wasn't smoking and decided to 'fit in' and started on mentholyptus fags and gradually got stronger (what a dick).
I will gladly walk into smokey bars and not complain because its my choice to walk out and I will gladly stand with smoking workmates in their fag shelters because its my choice to walk out.
However, there are two things that really irritate me about smokers and that is their total disregard that fag ends are litter. The entrances to our doors at work are a disgrace and there are bins everywhere. I also find it odd that when I run down by Greens Fitness Gym I see loads of people walking out of the doors lighting up. Whats that about then?
