SNES Mini Classic

I looked when the SNES Mini was announced, and there were plenty that had sold for between £70 - £90 - so I see £70 as reasonable considering the original price was £60, if I remember rightly. If you received a fake one that claimed to be official, ebay would refund it if the seller refused to.

ah, I'd buy one at that price. The issue I'm worried about is being able to spot the fakes though - obviously one with 500 games and a different box isn't even trying to fake it and they seem to be priced at more like £20 - what I don't know though is if there are fakes out there that are actually being passed off as real with imitation boxes and the same set of games etc..

I think there were a second batch of NES Mini's? As Nintendo have said stock issues with the SNES Mini will be better, hopefully they'll release some more. Are you signed up for Nintendo's e-mail list? They'll send out a stock alert, and you can get stock alerts from Amazon too.

I'm not, I used stock informer, I'd already grabbed one from Tesco when I got another alert from them but ignored it as I'd got my single pre-order in the bag. Now I've decided to go for a second as a gift I'll check out the e-mail list, thanks :)

ah this is why I can't justify handing over £130 for a NES Classic (cheapest I can find at the mo):

SNES in decent condition with no visible yellowing + light gun + arcade style joystick and a few games...
I have an original SNES, but I like the convenience of the SNES Mini - the ability to grab it and take it to a friend's place and be up and running in a few seconds, without the size and messing with all the wires etc. That and the fact it has some games not released over here.

I've just checked, and there are plenty of NES Classic's for under £80 at the moment, so it depends what the bidding ends up as - a good chance of under £80 looking at the completed auctions.

Eh?

Or are you talking about the original NES classic?

I guess if you can get an NES classic for £100 on ebay it's not too bad a deal given you can easily sell it for the same. It still sucks when you consider these things only retailed for £50 to begin with though.

If anything though it just proves how much Nintendo could have charged in the first place for these things and that the £50 RRP was too low. It always struck me that Nintendo basically gave these things away on the cheap purely for the purposes of building hype. I've never known Nintendo to offer a good deal on any hardware it sells! It'll be interesting to see if Nintendo hold good on their promise to make more SNES mini's.

I hope so but I still doubt it given I suspect Nintendo only see these things as hype generators and the best way to create brand publicity before Xmas is to artificially engineer a supply shortage!

Genuine NES Classic Mini's: https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?L..._nkw=nes+classic+mini+-700&rt=nc&LH_PrefLoc=1

I get 4 completed auctions between £70-£80, more if I unfilter UK.

that is rather misleading... remove that upper bound and you'll get over 700 results... basically those 4 people (less than 1% of buyers) got rather lucky, everyone else is paying more like £130+ for the things

Good bundle, don't forget you can't use the light gun on LCD tv's though, you'll need an old CRT.

while tempting I wasn't planning upon buying it, was just an example comparisons of what else you could get for the money

am actually a bit disappointed after doing my research on classic consoles - basically the UK SNES consoles or rather the games for them are crippled a bit due to the differences between PAL and NTSC and games companies basically developing initially for the latter then converting (often in half arsed manner) to the former

AFAIK at least the new mini version won't have this issue and will likely be emulating the original NTSC games

I hadn't thought of it that way, though I doubt all 700 will be just the official NES Mini's. There are a small number of Buy It Now's for £100 and under, so for anyone that's willing to pay that, it's worth setting up a Buy It Now ebay alert for that price, hoping you get there first. And you can always try bidding and hope you get one for a reasonable price.

After playing SNES games on emulators (which I guess run at NTSC speed), I haven't noticed a difference in speed of the games, and I don't think it was the case with all games?

AFAIK the current emulators (as in the virtual console stuff available on say a UK Wii) uses the PAL version of the games.

you can see the difference in time here:

you also get a slightly squished image as there are more lines on a PAL screen which are unused

similar issue with earlier PSX and PS2 titles, with plenty of these the PAL versions were crippled a bit through lazy conversions - though there is a solution there in that you can use the US Playstation store to make your digital purchases

that's a good point, I don't really use e-bay so hadn't considered that

Anyone got any ideas re: more potential pre-orders for this thing?

I've got an order in the bag with Tesco but I'd quite like to get another as a Christmas present for my sister

Argos seems to have put back the pre-order coming soon page but it has been like that for a few days... so perhaps hints that they might have more stock:

as for buying one on the day of release - did that work for anyone with the NES mini at all? Did you have to queue in advance like a bunch of apple fanboys etc..?

lastly, if anyone who has placed multiple orders just to ensure they get theirs delivered and doesn't want to turn into a ticket tout style scalper by flogging the surplus on e-bay at a substantial markup then I'd definitely appreciate a heads up on any future members market threads at a modest markup to cover time/postage :) (I know this is a long shot)

GAME took pre-orders at their brick and mortar stores so you probably won't have any joy there but it might be worth asking at your local toys r us or Tesco to see when they're going on sale as I'm sure each store will get a few units.

Ended up helping a couple of mates with my spares so hopefully I get all 3 now :)

Don't think anywhere has shown any signs of stock for 2-3 weeks now? Wheras before that they were popping in/out on most retailer sites

Been and gone, next wave would be on release or after release.

If you don't have one pre-ordered, the best bet is to turn up first thing in GAME to get one.

I think game were taking pre orders for all stock. Id maybe try toys r us or phone round some of your local supermarkets which didn't take pre-orders to see if theyre getting stock then camp outside in advance of them going on sale.

Realistically If you don't have one pre-ordered I suspect you'll probably struggle to find one now though :(
