SNES Mini Classic

Not sure if trolling or the first time you've bought a Nintendo console :)

Sure it might be in stock for pre-order when their books have just opened for a few hours but you wait until November/December in the run up to Xmas. They've already said it won't be manufactured after 2017!

If your want one I'd get busy with that pre-order from toys r us!

Yeah, you should not be looking at anything other than how the NES Classic situation went down, they were unavailable pretty much since launch.

They will 100% not be in plentiful supply.

Here's an idea, maybe not practical but for fun.

If this thing can be powered from a USB cable, could you not buy one of those small 8" TFT displays (like the Raspberry can be used with) that can in turn also be powered by a USB cable (some seem to need 5v) and then use a decent quality power bank to power the lot?

Come to think of it I'm not sure a normal power bank would have enough output to power it all, but if they did, well...you'd just need some duct tape to strap it all together and hey-presto, a clunky mobile retro Super Nintendo device, 3 times larger than your phone! :)

So what games on this are people most looking forward to re-playing or playing properly for the first time?

All aboard the hype train!

Secret of Mana, for the nth time. SoM is probably my favourite game. Certainly my most loved. Experience it with a friend if possible.
FF6. The best in the series, imho, with the best story and best cast of characters. Long overdue a revisit!
Super Mario World. I haven't played this properly since the 90s! THE greatest 2D Mario game.
Yoshi's Island. The best looking, most charming game on the snes. Stone cold classic.
Super Metroid. Gonna get nuts deep in this!

I keep reading the Nes version is still impossible to find, why is this a thing?..is it just scum bags trying to profit on Ebay?..or did they have a limited run?

And Doom, with the sweaty guardwhen you shoot them.

How long do those games take to complete, anything like witcher 3?

I'd say secret of mana is a good 40 hour game, FF6 depending how much you grind your characters, about 60 hours.

Super Mario world, depends how many of the 96 levels you do as you can speed run it very fast if you know the short cuts, but to complete the game I'd say, if you are great at platforming, 15 hours?

Hard say as you can lose your life to the Witcher 3! FF3 is about 30hrs if you're going for it. Same for Mana. Super Mario World, all 96 worlds, probably 10-15 hrs. They're not uber long games, but definitely have some meat to them

For me it's:
- Replay -
Secret of Mana - think I only completed it once as a kid but keep meaning to go through it again.
Starfox - brilliant game, had a lot of fun trying to 100% each stage on the different paths.
Super Ghouls n Ghosts - to actually get far in this for once and beat it (easier said than done).

- First time - (not including Starfox 2 as that's a given)
EarthBound - never really played this properly but I'm curious as so many seem to rate it.
Super Metroid - only dabbled with this briefly on emulators in the past so a good play-through is in order.
Super Punch Out / Mega Man X - never recall playing either so should be fun.

Punch Out
SF2
Star Fox
Star Fox 2
Mario World
Donkey Kong Country
Super Mario Kart

All classics, even though i've played through them all (bar Star Fox 2 obviously) in years gone by i'm looking forward to giving them another blast.

Gotta wonder, what happened to their promise for significantly more of these than the NES mini? Unless perhaps they're planning to release some more.

Immensely stupid question incoming. I’ve seen various references to “scalping” in this thread and it is the first time I’ve heard/read of it. Do I assume it’s purchasing/pre-ordering stuff explicitly for reselling for profit at a later point in time?

Yip, people will order as many as then can with the sole intention of selling at x2/3 the cost

I've been charged already so they take at order, despite what their site says.

If you are paying by PayPal then that usually happens.

If its depending on your account via card then that's not a charge, that's a credit check to see if you have funds available. It does state that for pre orders. I get the same from Amazon which is usually £1 but it's never taken out.

I forgot that I had an account with Toy R Us, got a few orders from them which were pre orders and I know for a fact I wasn't charged until dispatch.
