Megadrive for me. IMO it had a better selection of games. The SNES had some awesome A+ titles, SF, StarWing, F-Zero, Mario Kart, but those aside most others were pretty poor.

I prefer the Megadrive. Tough decision though!

One thing I liked that nobody has really mentioned is that the Megadrive had the more "grown up" games.

Had both as a fortunate 11yr old, thoroughly enjoyed both at the time. Was lucky enough to have almost all the games too.

I've always thought the whole this vs that debate was silly. I prefer to play games, not systems.

But for me the snes was and is the better experience, so much so that i still own and play the snes games via vc on my wii.

Megadeive was a great machine too, but it isn't altered beast i fondly remember, it is mario world and zelda lttp. Secret of mana, f zero! Actraiser and cybernator.

In fact it is safe to say, if i could buy a new snes today i'd pay £100 for the privilige of owning the lovely hardware.

Mega drive.

Hours of fun with my best mate playing games like Alien, Zombies ate my neighbours, Road Rash, Italia 90', Golden Axe, Streets of rage!

Infact we still crack it out for micro machines drinking games on the rare occasion!

Same here :)

I was in Tokyo a few years back and there were tiny stores filled to the brim with snes gear. Mostly second hand and going slightly yellow, but one place had a brand spanking new console in the original packaging:

I was so tempted, but it cost a lot more than £100!

Played both to death as kid, loved both of them; Looking back through teh games I think I played the SNES more, though honestly it's a coin flip between the pair.

The SNES had Chrono Trigger. Therefore the SNES wins.

MD had phantasy start 2,3,4 :)

I loved them both (I still have them too) but I believe SNES was the best. I can remember playing gradius 3 on a jap import and being completely blown away, not only was it a great game but was almost a perfect port of the arcade.

cannot believe it's an even split, I'd be interested to see the same forum vote on PS3 or xbox 360...

Sega made great arcade games, to be honest if they released their entire back catalogue on that Onya android machine, given the time I have for gaming these days I'd buy the lot for some arcade madness.

Had a Megadrive on first release and played it to death, loved Sonic, Mickey Mouse Castle of Illusion and the Thunder Force series, but as soon as I got hold of a SNES with it's mode 7 graphics, superior sound etc, then I'm sorry to say the Megadrive just gathered dust, even when I later added the Mega CD and the 32X I still went back to the lovable SNES.

I wonder how many people here have been playing Emulators :) - After reading this thread a few times i've just been having urges to play Sonic 2 and Zelda: Link to the Past again ha.

I couldn't afford one back in the day. I've made up for it over these last couple of weeks I've bought eight games for my Neo Geo.

Nice! I only ever saw arcade versions, none of my mates parents were rich enough :D

The SNES was better overall (still got mine) but 'ABACABB' only worked on the Mega Drive :p
