So, anyone got an iRobot Roomba or other robot vacuum cleaner?

I'm impressed with the eufy, can be had for 200 especially for that price. Having watched it in action, I wouldn't get one with out the side sweeper thingies, it cleans up to the edge of things, unlike the ones which don't.

Got my old Roomba still running from a few years ago, but I would not hesitate to buy another similar device if the Roomba ever breaks down.

I have a handheld vac for the things the Roomba can't reach (stairs, deep in corners etc).

Is anyone concerned about random spyware on these cheaper Roomba style robot vacs?

I've got the Xiaomi Mi. Had it a couple of weeks now. I'm quite impressed, but it's early days and novelty still.

I started off letting it access the back half of the house, all wooden floors. Other than trying to eat the base station cable because I didn't take seriously the part about avoiding trailing cables, it went fine. The LIDAR affair is fun to watch on the app as it maps out the room, and it does a nice job of coverage and getting in areas it can only just fit into, width wise!

I let it into the living room, which has carpet, the other day. Also did a good job there, and left lovely tyre tracks!

It did seem to take a couple of days to find its way into my hall, through a narrow'ish door that i'd left open, but now gets it every time I leave that door open.

It speaks Chinese, though you can change it to English in the app. As it's never saying anything important/not obvious, I much prefer it speaking Chinese!

So I've now had two failures with the Neato D85, both replaced without issue under warranty but that's not the point. I can foresee one eventually failing just outside of warranty and that will be a pain.

I only paid £360 for it new and seems they are now selling for £499, maybe due to exchange rates or some such, so think I might sell the warranty replacement as it's a completely new unit.

Those of you with the Xiaomi Mi - How does it handle carpet, particularly thick pile? I've seen a few reviews which suggested it was only really suitable for hard floors and light carpet.

After 4years Arnie has finally bitten the dust so to speak. I'm hoping it's just a dead battery as it appears it's not holding charge and they are only £20 it seems so an easy and cheap fix. If it's not that then upgrade time!

What do you think you'll go for? LG announced some impressive models recently (maybe at CES?) but not sure when they're hitting the market.

Pretty sure it’s just the battery so should get another 4 years out of it hopefully, will only start looking at something else if that fails!

It's a bit silly (depending on your budget) to go for anything that isn't a Xiaomi Mi Robot, as there is nothing as good in that price category. Spares are also very cheap.

True, I have the Xiaomi Mi and it definitely punches above its weight and I'm really happy with it. However, it's still interesting to see what manufacturers are doing to fix the short falls on robot vacuum cleaners. E.g. Samsung's Edge cleaning, as the common side brush doesn't really help all that much with carpet.

What's your opinion on the Rev 2 of the Xiaomi by the way? I feel like the mop function is a gimmick and there's only two to three improved features that are of any use (the pressure sensor on the LDS turret, the improved suction and increase in obstacle height it can climb).

I'm struggling to find out if they've implemented software virtual walls or if you can only specify a square area on the virtual map that you want the robot to go and clean. It sounds like it's only the latter.

I thought they could have moved the brush housing to the front of the bot (like Samsung, Neato, Dyson and the new LGs) as currently, the bot can only get as close to skirting boards as the distance from the brush to its side.

I never had any idea a v2 was released, and I will now read up on it over the next couple of days as the mop function would really interest me if it worked properly and didn't mess up carpets etc. I also wonder if a mop add-on can be gouth for the v1.

Video here... actually a very honest and detailed review!

The new software features look great with the app-based virtual walls and "areas of focus cleaning", I really want to know if they will port over to the v1 model. If not I will be tempted to buy one and sell my v1...

I'd had a Neato for about a year. It's really cool to watch it roam about. It does such a good job I haven't used my Dyson since.

Still have to do the stairs with the handheld Dyson, still need one for the car and occasional jobs anyway.

I think the combination of a robot for floors and a handheld for everything else is ideal.

There's definitely room for improvement, it bashes into quite a lot of stuff, the battery life is barely sufficient and my house is quite small, the filter is a bit of a pain to clean.

The Xiaomi Mi Robot would likely be a big improvement in those areas, especially the battery. :)

Holy crap why on earth did I not buy a Dyson V6 cord free vacuum sooner (other than them being a bit of a ripoff when not in a sale)? It is the perfect accompaniment to a robot vacuum cleaner and almost ridiculously chuffing convenient. :D

their is a new version out of the xiaomi robot cleaner. supposed to be much better for wooden flooring and tiles, etc.
Link?

The existing one seems fine on solid surfaces? TBH surely solid surfaces are the easiest thing for them to deal with? Surely it's carpets and the like that are tricky?

I'd say the only area it needs improving on is getting close the edges and corners?
