So are the M5/M6 identical?

OT: How do cars actually work as girl magnets anyway? The only time a girl who hasn't previously known me will see my car is either when I leave somewhere, or if I drop it into conversation.

And dropping what you drive into a conversation with girls is the most un-cool thing ever. Most of them don't give a stuff.

When you're 17 and live in an area where 99% of the girls are slags, it works.

When you're 17 you won't have a 911 Turbo Cabrio.

Perhaps its just me but of all the girls I spend time with, not one of them could care less what car I drive.

Don't you stand at the bar and swing your car keys above your head

The sort of people buying those cars won't give a rat's ass about depreciation. Unless you're relatively poor and desperately stretching out to try and afford one.

I strongly disagree. I think BMW's entire range is stunning (bar the 1 series, but I don't dislike it) and people need to actually evaluate the cars' image until the automatic "BMW sucks" thing kicks in. If anyone needs design lessons it's Audi and Mercedes because all their cars look identical.
Tommy, I sense you missed my tongue in cheek... :D

For clarity, I have owned many BMW's, my previous 2 cars were E46 M3's I bought from new, and when I got out of my last one I considered an E60 M5 from new, well until the cheese and knife thing got in the way :p I came here via a mate at BM3W so your implication “automatic BMW sucks thing kicks in” couldn’t be less true in my case.

Your "The sort of people buying those cars won't give a rat's ass about depreciation." is spoken like someone who, if I may, displays a level of naivety. I am "one of those sorts". Rest assured lost money is concerning to most people who buy M5’s and M6’s, we would all prefer to loose as little as possible, no matter how much you earn and being concerned about it has nothing to do with "desperately stretching out to try and afford one".

LOL, I was about to type that exact sentence! :D

Fox I was only joking. I wouldn't buy it to attract women, in fact by the time you can afford that sort of car you've probably got a few kiddies under the belt anyway.

I know some very shallow girls. So long as it has 4 wheels, is faster than walking and makes their other girl friends jealous, it works.

Then you have a very good taste in women mate. The type who would respond to a 911 Turbo Cabrio are too shallow to be worth it.

That is true for car enthusiasts, but don't forget cars have become a fashion accessory and a status symbol. In my town (Sevenoaks) If I drive through the high street at the weekend I will see several super cars in a window of about 5 minutes, because it happens to be the home for lots of rich people who work and commute to London. Obviously for these types it is much easier to finance such cars.

Is that because you're so fugly that even if you owned a Veyron they still wouldn't touch you with a barge pole?

Very True. A fool and his money are easily parted.

I think any BMW in Interlagos blue is cool

Tommy, I work and commute to London, my office is in the city... :p

Super rich is a less than 1% of the population, and less than 1% of the M5 and M6 ownership I would suggest. I know lots of people with them, and bar 1 they are all discussing depreciation. It has nothing to do with how much you own and as has been said "A fool and his money are easily parted", and most foolish people are those who splash it around. Don't for a minute think that means they have loads and can afford to have no worries, it usually means the opposite... ;)

I see your point, but if they're so worried about it then why do so many people go out and buy them brand new? There are hundreds of used M5s up for sale.

You're not trying hard enough to corrupt them :p

My previous 2 ex's didn't give a crap about cars when I first met them. Now, one of them would kill for an Evo, the other would love nothing better than an orange Focus ST on her driveway :D

I don't think women get cars. Or at least the majority don't. For them it's just a tool to get you from A to B.

The M6 is an all time beauty.

& a very different animal to the M5.

Nothing much changed there that shooting Bangle would'nt sort. ;)

I'm trying my best. The girlfriend will text me with 'I just saw a 530d'.

It's worrying I find that cool :(

Well, you're getting somewhere at least. Keep at it and she might start hankering after a decent motor herself!
