So excited..

I nearly went to thorneys, the warranty and prominence on the forum made it so that they had a lot going for them.

But i found stacks of people telling me not to use Thorney, but couldnt find anybody that slated courtenays.

Their posting style on the forum says a lot about the company and its values. J.T. uses the vxr forums as an extension of his advertising budget, except he gets it cheap by just posting himself on there, including all the usual lies and stretching of the truth it entails. THe man is a snake in the grass

wheras other tuners like regal and courtenay just use it to make press style announcements and arent afraid to reveal the true facts.

Thorney have still to release back to back dyno graphs of before and after fitting of the milltek exhaust. Their own website shows a stage 1 vectra higher than the stage 2, yet they still maintain it liberates extra power despite it being roughly the same size and retaining the precat.

Well its all done now, it made 285BHP and 320lb/ft of torque. Shame it was raining though as the traction control just kept kicking in a soon as it boosts. I can already tell its pulling so much harder and the noise is epic in tunnels. I'll get the graphs and a video up tomorrow.

I take that power figure is with the exhaust, 'performance' plugs, air filter and remap? (assuming stage 2 is a remap of course, I'm not too clued up on VXRs). It would have been interesting to know what sort of figures the car would have produced with those mods without the remap, as I'd have thought any gains would have been negligible?

Would it have been possible to take the car to stage 2 without the exhaust and other bits, and if so, what sort of money are we talking for the remap alone?

Considering their website is advertising exhausts for £950 upwards alone, I can see how you managed to come to that sort of figure!

Very roughly off the top of my head,

3" Miltek Race exhaust was £1100, stage 2 remap was £500, plugs and air filter were about £100 and the service was £150. It'd probably make around 275-280 without the plugs and air filter and its also not possible for a stage 2 without and exhaust.

£1100 for an exhaust?

Is that turbo back? 3" bore? Isn't that a bit overkill?

Still, the power figure is impressive and that's going to shift some. Looking forward to seeing the vids/graph :)

Before with 2.5inch milltek

and after with 3.0 inch milltek race

Dyno graphs in the link above. piper also did their research as well when developing their system, and came to the conclusion 3.0inch was the optimal size.

Remember the Astra is turbocharged, and in turbocharged cars you want as little back pressure as possible to help the turbo spin as easily as possible (but not too much otherwise you loose oil pressure in the turbo)

3.0inch appears to be the optimum for this.

Yeah I know people get the best results with 3" bore on the mx5 too. A turbo'ed mx5 and things like the astra will have very similar amounts of gasses coming out of the engine, so would make perfect sense that they would share the same optimum bore.
