So I got my ears unblocked...

I had my right ear done some months back. It kept becoming completely blocked, as if you had your finger in it, as the wax completely sealed it off.

At the GP they looked in and decided it'd need syringing. I used Bicarbonate of soda drops (prescribed) for a few days (a week?) before having it syringed. No pain during it, I was told if there was any pain I should raise my hand and they'd stop it. That's my experience of it! Pretty standard I think. Hearing is good in that ear now, but my ears don't match together so well, should have the other done to match really!

I think there is some risk, but there is an alternative method which is basically vacuuming it out. This is performed at the hospital though so expect to wait longer.

I have needed to do this for soo long.....can not hear so well out of my left ear. Gonna do a week of olive oil drops then get the blast done.

Hopefully then I can appreciate my Dre Beats Solo HD

I had a blocked ear over Christmas for a few weeks and it drove me absolutely crazy.

Got it syringed and it felt amazing. Everything sounds so crystal clear its brilliant at first before it goes back to normal.

I have read that the more you get an ear syringed though, the more wax will build up afterwards and the more it will need to be done in the future. Have also heard that it can cause ear infections too. Shouldn't be a regular thing.

IEMs can permanently damage your hearing if you use them a lot and at loud volume.

Buds are just as bad, if not worse because you naturally have to turn them up louder to compensate for the lack of isolation and outside noise that creeps in. At least with IEMs a good seal means lower overall playback volume... if you're sensible. Anyway time to sleep with some drops in, let's hope I wake up with a load of gunk on my pillow! :/

I have to have my ears syringed every 12-15 months as I produce too much wax :(. The water feels like its right behind the eyeball when its being squirted in. But its a lovely feeling being able to hear properly again.

There was a post on here about a year ago with some bloke bought a syringing machine and offered to do peoples ears. He would make a fortune now :)

Ah yeah, I had this done two weeks ago. I was pretty much functionally deaf from wax. The nurse said she couldn't even see my eardrum through it. It was so thick and dry, though, that on most appointments it was deemed too hard to remove.

I was having to pull my ears open with my little finger to make a space in the wax so I could hear anything at all.

I had to use olive oil three times a day for another 10 days before it had softened to the point it could be removed.

And I was stunned by the difference. It felt a little uncomfortable until the wax blobs worked free, then it was quite nice. I remember hearing the rustling of the paper I was holding under my ear. First time I'd heard such a quiet sound for so long, and it sounded so damned loud.

The high street on the walk home was almost unbearable. I had to fight the urge to cover my ears. And for the next two or three days, everything was really uncomfortably loud. Water running from the tap, my footsteps on floor tiles, urine hitting the toilet, noises from the street, my wife typing on her laptop behind my chair. All were unpleasant, overwhelming, and slightly disorienting. And my two kids (4 and 2)... words couldn't describe!

Thankfully everything has settled down to being clear but tolerable again now.

I've having my ear(s) done on monday, unlike most here because of an inbalance issue if one get's blocked I end up nasuated and dizzy, sometimes sick. Though lately it could also be all the medication i'm on

But...Your earsaren't connected to your eyes? Why are you dizzy because of your ears???

According to my doctor anyway

Permanent? I've got Tinnitus myself but not through syringing. Apparently when they use a jet wash in your ear that can cause it. The best method is a small sucking device that's what they use in my local hospital on me.

Well, I had it done about 6 years ago and it's still there! So yes, kinda permanent...

Apparently I have amazing hearing though according to two hospital tests....Can hear into minus db's apparently :p

Ewwwwwwww you guys sound like a right filthy bunch of puss-filled animals! :p :p Haven't you heard of cotton buds?

Do I just produce a less than average amount of earwax, or something? Is it actually normal to need syringing at the doctor's and olive oil, etc to maintain the ability to hear? Ewwww.

:)

I had this done because the wax was messing up my inner ear and making me dizzy. I didn't like how loud everything was, I'm happy with my waxy ears now. When they did it I nearly puked afterwards, made me all dizzy

Same as!, getting mine done on monday

I had this done when I was a kid. Was the strangest experience being driven home in the car afterwards, and I remember it to this day. It was like hearing things for the very first time :p
