So I got my ears unblocked...

My ears unblocked themselves once when I was on holiday and swimming in the sea. I'd been in the sea most of the day snorkelling quite deep when I got to the surface to take another breath and dive, I heard a loud pop and then my brother shouting "eeeeew" as ear wax ran down the side of my head. The amount that came out was unreal. And it stinks as well.

I've had mine syringed when I was very young, and once a few year backs mid teens with a water jet. My hearing isn't the boss, and I think I just have over-active wax producing thingermiwotsits, but I can hear decently if I've not wearing huge over-ear headphones, loud music and the like.

I should probably cut down the music volumes to be honest. I hated being mega-deaf a few years ago, basically water got in my ear and caused the wax to expand and clump. Awkward in social situations.

Had it done myself about 10 years ago (that makes me feel old) from my recollection I'm sure you must be able to get the same effect but simply putting a shower head against your ear :p

Having mine done Tuesday after nearly a week with 1 being blocked. Very uncomfortable and feels like the side of my head will explode :(

Cotton wool buds can make it worse by compacting it in the ear canal.

And as for the person who said how can your ear make you dizzy, the inner ear aides balance ;)

It's better than having them blocked up, but don't walk home on a busy street. It's uncomfortably loud. Your ears sort of zoom in on everything and it's a bit of a sensory overload.

Bah wish my life was as good as the OPs :p. For me Ive had a cold and somehow when attempting to blow my nose Ive perforated my right eardrum :/

ps3ud0

Went to get mine done last week, as the GP having checked my ear advised it is wax. End result very little wax and some sort of white covering of the ear drum.

3 Doctors checked it and did not have any idea to what it was so hospital outpatients for me...in November

Ah yeah, I had this done two weeks ago. I was pretty much functionally deaf from wax. The nurse said she couldn't even see my eardrum through it. It was so thick and dry, though, that on most appointments it was deemed too hard to remove.

I was having to pull my ears open with my little finger to make a space in the wax so I could hear anything at all.

I had to use olive oil three times a day for another 10 days before it had softened to the point it could be removed.

And I was stunned by the difference. It felt a little uncomfortable until the wax blobs worked free, then it was quite nice. I remember hearing the rustling of the paper I was holding under my ear. First time I'd heard such a quiet sound for so long, and it sounded so damned loud.

The high street on the walk home was almost unbearable. I had to fight the urge to cover my ears. And for the next two or three days, everything was really uncomfortably loud. Water running from the tap, my footsteps on floor tiles, urine hitting the toilet, noises from the street, my wife typing on her laptop behind my chair. All were unpleasant, overwhelming, and slightly disorienting. And my two kids (4 and 2)... words couldn't describe!

Thankfully everything has settled down to being clear but tolerable again now.

Identical to you, nearly word for word agree with this.
