So if I pass I suppose I should buy a car?

have you tryed directline for insurance ?

they are doing 0 % when you pay monthly at the moment

http://www.directline.com/motor/welcome.htm

a bit easier being able to pay £100 a month or whatever, than finding the whole £1200 in one go.

The fact every other industry apart from the motor insurance industry lets you pay by direct debit instead of having to be "loaned" the money is another matter, but at least one company is moving in the right direction.

Will be going with them because I save about £150 because we have house insurance with them. Getting quotes of £1300 for a 214.

Gotta feel sorry for new drivers these days. It doesnt seem that long ago (1994), a 20 year old friend of mine, was insured to drive a BMW 850CSI (5.5L V10, 340bhp) for around 2k fully comp.

Guess I got off lucky myself too, got a job at 18 that provided BMW 7's a company cars! :). Didnt buy myself a car of my own until 24, and the insurance with zero no claims was still only £450 for fully comp on a 1.8L Scirocco GTi :)

These 3K insurance quotes are insane to me.

Anyway, once you buy your car, put up a piccy :)

It's disgusting.

2006 1.4 Golf - Me only, cheapest quote is £2561.11
Me as second driver behind my parents £700

I hope the EU get involved with this and sue them for discrimination of some kind.

I feel really sorry for new drivers too. When I was 17 (1996!) I paid £420 for TPFT on a Mk 3 Escort 1.6. I was stunned when I changed to a 309 GTI about 4 years later and got billed almost £900.
