So my 8mth old Cat got run over......

God, could have done with out the pics, lump in throat time.

Sorry to see this, must be awful, they are like family members.

Very hard decision, personally, if hes on the painkillers, why not give it time?

I have two cats (house cats) the roads are far too busy to let them out. If we moved somewhere quieter, the decision would have to be made, and a hard decision it is.

Cycling, I have seen many near misses and deaths with pets. Recently I watched a dog get run over and die infront of me, and when I was younger, I managed to scare a cat, who shot out into the road and got run over but ran off.

Check that pet insurance is actually worth it, with all the animals I have owned I found that insuring them would result in a greatly increased lifetime cost of looking after them as opposed to just paying for emergency treatment as required.

I think every person is unique on this front. Us for example be it from bad luck or what ever have, since getting our cats 5 years ago have spent over 5K in vets bills on them. To lengthy to go through but its ranged from a broken back to cystitis (repeatedly) to abscesses to bladder stone operations to an operation to Murray's eye.

The broken back was the most costly at £1500 alone and we pay £20 a month for both of them. They would both have to live to 20 years of age before the outlay of insurance gets to the amount we would have spent so far. Without doubt if we had not had insurance it is likely that we could not have afforded (at that time) to pay for the vets.

OT, glad its looking up :)

Ugh started reading this thread today and got to the pics and had to skip to the end for an update. I like many other cat owners I'm sure, dread this type of situation.

Glad to hear the news from the Vet in Update#3. Sorry to hear you don't have insurance, it is likely to be expensive. X-Rays alone can be in the hundreds just for that, let alone the drugs, surgery, etc.

I do have pet insurance, as I couldn't live with myself if one of my two got injured to this extent and I couldn't afford to pay it. For my own sanity, £10 a month (just over) to cover them decently is piece of mind.

It's a relatively low cost though at 500 per cat year. You haven't taken into account that premiums will certainly increase over the next few years.

I had just finished typing a reply to the recent comments when my fiancé has just phoned me to say -- after his x-ray - its now clear that he's been completely crushed internally, and has to be put down.

Forgive the briefness of this post, I can't say much more right now.

Absolutely gutted :(

I'm so sorry for your loss. I still remember how much it hurt when my cat died and that was 20+ years ago. My heart goes out to you :(
