So my 8mth old Cat got run over......

Hardest thing in the world I've had to do so far was put my cat down (kidney failure)

No words can help .... honestly sad 4 ur loss :(

Turns out he had at least 7 fractures in his pelvis, the vet saw no point in prolonging what must have been great suffering for him.
I'm kicking myself for not having him put down straight away on Saturday night, the emergency vet seemed so sure that this was extreme and not the best plan...
I guess hindsight is a wonderful thing, but feel truly dreadful that he must have had so much suffering, even if he didn't seem to be suffering, bar obvious discomfort when moving...

Not often you see a 17st 42year old trucker crying, I've been doing just that.
R.I.P. little chap, I wish I'd made a different decision.

Thanks to all for the comments, support & wishes
This is a superb community.

I'll be home tomorrow, my concern now is primarily my 5 year old who will be really struggling with this, especially given the recent & still raw loss of her schoolteacher.

Life can be very cruel. :/

Don't blame yourself. You did everything you could to help keep the poor little thing alive. You had no way of knowing how this was going to turn out. You are NOT to blame for any of this.

My heart truly breaks for you. I'd totally give you a bro hug if I could :(

So sorry to hear that fella,

Going to be a tough couple of weeks especially for your little un :(

On another note

Get those other kitties insured fella, its a must really is.

One of ours had swallowed some poison when out and about, had to go to a Dick Whites near cambridge for treatment as the vet just didnt know what was going on. That would have cost 3k!!!

I can recommend Tesco Pet Insurance, they really were good with us and we didnt have to pay a penny up front with the above instance

It has to be over £200'ish iirc for the vets to do a direct claim (So you don't have to pay upfront).

Don't let them near the lillies! :P

Oh no :(.

I read the first post of this yesterday and was dreading scrolling down as I read the posts, to reach one that had bad news. I then read the one about him being okay and thought phew, glad for you. Thought I'd check the thread this evening to see how he was getting on and this :(.

All the best to you.

Don't punish yourself mate you obviously had good intentions keeping the little guy alive over night, especially with a vet advising you to keep him going on pain killers until the next available vet appointment the following day. For what its worth in your situation I would have done exactly the same thing if the vet had given me a sign of hope!

We've had both our cats hit by cars. 1 survived with a broken leg one didn't. I found the one that didn't in a field after someone lobbed her over a hedge to die.

You did what you thought was right and gave it the best chance of surviving.

Get the others cats insured. Ours cost about £2k with just a broken leg.

Rip kitty.

I don't know how someone could do that. If I hit someone's pet I would be taking it straight to the vets and endeavour to get in contact with the owner. That pet has someone or a family that care for them.

No - you made the right decision. You were informed by the vet that, with the information he had, the cat had a decent chance at surviving. Given that, you made the right call by hanging on until you knew for sure otherwise. You can only ever act on the information you have in front of you at the time.

Sorry again for your loss - I know the misery of losing a beloved pet. But, try not to beat yourself up over this one. You had to give him a chance...
