So no 580 in stcok and over £300 for a 570 well done Nvidia

wow, there are some seriously anal ppl in this thread, what is so hard to understand? i think certain ppl here must willfully dislike rroff as their posts have no logic and even hint at an absence of basic english comprehension

The thing that has yet prevented me from investing in 460 or 470 SLI is the inconsistent performance in games.

Granted it has been a while since I had SLI but crossfire X showed the same issues.

Now I understand SLI may be MORE consistent but it still has issues. Not least "micro-stutter".

I think you will run in to memory issues with 460's running at 2560*1600 as welll

thing is if you push your 470's to 775 / 800 mhz (which I have done with minimal extra volts)

I believe its quite easy to do on most cards, you are looking at stock 480 performance in most cases, and a lot more in others...

470 / 460 SLI is a great value option of getting top performance, and (for me) makes the most sense....

580 / 570 are great parts though, no doubt about it.....

Lets see what ATi does now!

Not you mate, no point naming ppl ill be as bad as them wasting interweb space :p
Lets just leave it at some people spend more time fighting being padantic then helping out the noobs or haveing a chat and or a civil Discussion :)

EDIT: man im grumpy this morning, oh and GJ = good job not you gj02

I'm with Rroff and feel the same about my gtx470's in SLI.

There is nothing wrong with wondering whether you made the right decision and although happy with your performance, you never want a new card to come out a couple of weeks later which is twice as quick and half the price.

I am also happy with the performance and price of the gtx570 and it makes me glad that it's not £165 and faster than a gtx480.

The other problem with newer graphics cards is that if their performance is out of this world then it won't be long before games make use of that power (lazy programming) and then your cards will start and struggle.

You can't tell me that people who bought a 8800gtx were not only very happy with their initial performance but every time a new card came out, their performance was still up there amongst the best (or still better in some cases)?

Yes, graphics cards devalue quickly but it is nice when youy manage to buy something which will last a reasonable amount of time and still cuts it.

For £310, ,my gtx470's were a steal and it really had to be bought but there was always an something in the back of my mind which said they might still be a bad buy if Nvidia or ATI released a sub £300 single card with better performance than gtx470's in SLI.

+1

And it makes no difference which company makes the 'new' product(s) - it's still a bummer when it happens.

But imagine what a bummer will be if you sell said product to buy the promised new sperfandango 2x turbo charged item, and it then turns out be an overrated underperforming turd?
