So today i started S.T.A.L.K.E.R for the first time

OMG!

I can't believe i have never played this game! im only a couple of hours in and im seriously enjoying it more than any game i have played on my ps4! I have always been a console gamer so i missed this game. For a game that came out in 2007 it still looks pretty good.

Mind = blown right now, Man seriously what other games have i missed out on? :eek:

Oh yeah Im not playing with any mods or anything, i was worried it might spoil the originality of the game, can anybody give me a short run down of any expansions or mods that are worth using before i continue?

There is complete mod for that game look it up and there is plenty of graphics mods.

have you played fallouts on pc ?
 
I think Stalker Complete 2009 is the most popular mod for SOC. It's what I used for my play through. Don't know too much about what other mods are available tbh, but I had a blast with Complete, which was a noticeable improvement over the vanilla game for me.
 
You've missed out on a hell of a lot since 2007....

If you like stalker you'll prob like the other stalker games too, and for prettiness the metro games
 
Im going through it with the complete mod, on my way to The Bar with those docs, which is where ive always stopped playing it in the past, and i don't know why, as i really enjoy it, so this time, im determined to go further. :D

As others have said the complete 2009 mod is best... there are some others that I can't for the life of me remember what they were called... but complete 2009 gives the best compendium :)

Cracking game... very immersive. Look up Metro2022 or the redux version... that's great too.

I remember giving that a try back in the day.....heavy with bugs and performances issue if I remember correctly....

anytime I had flames being displayed by my GPU, I would crash down too like 15fps or something.....

....needless to say, I scrapped it.

As others have mentioned, get the Stalker Complete mod. It doesn't change core gameplay but it does fix a huge number of bugs (the game was notoriously buggy on release) and makes it look prettier too.

It's one of my fave games and probably the most incredibly atmospheric game i've ever played. Some people can't get on with the slightly clunky dialogue translation (personally i think it adds to the atmosphere) and the fact the game really doesn't hold your hand at all. The early areas where you basically have a peashooter in the dark against opponents that are sometimes invisible is admittedly challenging at times. :D One of the few games that actually had me running away from enemies sometimes as the usual gung ho approach was just instant death. But then it's so worth it when later on you get some better equipment to take them on. Also, really pay attention to the stuff in your PDA, as some key mission objectives are not signposted unless you're looking in there regularly.

Then move on and play the second and third games - there are Complete mods for each of those too.

It's 2033 and Metro is completely different to Stalker's open world.
 
Is this the right link for the Stalker Complete Mod? Played it through once (for the first time) over winter, loved it - there are no new games like it imo, Metro isn't the same open world and its much more linear.
 
It's a cracking game and I'm super jealous that you're experiencing it for the first time :D

The Complete mod is well worth getting and really adds quite a lot to the experience.

Will people please stop posting how they're just starting and game and how to improve it.

Makes me want to install it again too (well, it's already installed but I need to mod it now)
 
:cool: It's one of, if not the best series of games I have ever played. Enjoyed every second of it. The second and third are great as well, but the first will always be my favourite as I was experiencing the game for the first time. The others expand on the first, but its still the same setting etc.

I have always played it with the complete mods and thought it improved the gfx, ironed out some bugs, but didn't change the gameplay, but after looking on 4chan's /v/ board it seems they really don't like the complete mods for some reason. Might be worth having a read around for what else is recommended.

It's great to see new people discovering the games. Such a shame they never got to make Stalker 2 :(.
