So what's your policy about giving money to homeless people?

I'll usually give them a flying headbutt, when they hit the deck i whip a steel chair out and beat them with it several times then get a passer by to count the pin fall.

:p

Nah depends on the person really, normally buskers i'll give something.

I can't stand them Belfast is plagued by a few familys of Romanian beggers, all you get out of them is "big issue, please, please, big issue" or they pretend to play a recordian(sp)? Nearly ever street has one of them on it, hanging around bus stops, restaurants, cash points or charity shops.

Did you watch the news investigation on them a few months ago? I think it was run by Stephen Nolan. They are part of an organised group and have ringleaders in charge of them. They come up form Dublin and Drogheda on the train every morning with their ring leader who sends them out to beg. At the end of the day they all meet up and catch the last train back down to Dublin. My uncle commutes on the train and often sees them on their way back to Dublin sitting at the tables counting their money out - often hundreds of pounds each.

If they're pulling in over a hundred quid a day, tax free, they're not that ****ing poor.

I love nothing better than when walking past, putting my hand into my pocket pull out some change and reply to there "Big issue chant" no thank you.

Those gits get on my ****, its got to the point where theres one against a wall and one on the other side of the footpath..almost like the tunnel of beggary. Plenty of them going down castle street, sometimes they dont even say big issue just "please please".

by that do you mean busking?

Nope Buskers and street performers are great (so long as we are talking about real musicians and not some guy with a CD player petending to play a violin :p

I'm talking about women and children who are "forced" into a life of begging by organised gangs. You see quite a few of them with "obviously" drugged youngsters here in Belgium.

I ignore them on the streets but have a Direct Decbit with Shelter, thus giving money to an organisation that provides accomodation to homeless people. This way I can do my bit for homeless people knowing it isn't going to get spent on booze or fags and is actually going to a genuine homeless person.

Shelter provide information, not accomodation. Try checking their website. In fact, since you're too lazy to, I'll do it:

Can you house me?

No. We do not provide accommodation

As for claiming benefits while homeless - you can do this, but I doubt £45 a week will pay for 7 days worth of B&B...about two nights, around here. Thats without considering food..

Never watched that and didn't know them came up from Dublin, I take it they came up north as they are sick of them down in Dublin. People must give to make themselfs feel better for a day as in a good deed a day. If people feel they have to do that I wish they would give it to something mencap or the hospice.

Yep must be the same crowd, probably claiming dole north and south.

beggers no, buskers...occasionally

There's a huge difference between beggers and buskers. Buskers in most cities actually need to have permits to do what they do, and many of the musicians who busk are talented. If a busker impresses me, I have no qualms about giving them money for performing.

I normally ignore them.

Although the ones in Bournemouth like to prey on the drunk / sit around cash points.

Me and my mate were asked if we had any spare change, I just said "No, sorry".

My mate took his wallet out and said "Sorry mate, not got anything" and turned it upside down to gesture that it was empty, when about £4 in one pound coins fell out :D

My mate just picked them up and walked off sheepishly.

change?
