So who's pre-ordered a Core I7 then?

...just wandering how many people have pre-ordered a core i7 and have their X58 mobo ready and waiting? I don't - just wandered when someone might be clocking the cr@p out of it and posting some benchies!:D

patiently waiting...:)

I have the money to buy a reasonable i7 setup but I won't be buying til the prices drop to about half what they are now... you don't need to be just rich to buy one of these you have to be rich AND stupid.

What's going on with the prices? The site says that stock is present but the price remains TBC?? All down to NDA regulations??

Are those stock levels accurate?

loadsmoney? webbo? joker? they will proably be the first few to get them wont they?

Loadsamoney won't , I wreckon Simon malbly (or however it's spelt :p), easyrider and forno, devious etc.

Just look towards the top of a CPU bench thread ;)

Just bought a Q9550 a few weeks back; the prices of all the main bits of hardware are just too expensive, I would reckon it will be the 3rd quarter of next year before I go Core I7, by then prices and choice should be more attractive...

I`ll be going Core I7, but not until march, april next year. Hopefully there will be a better selection of Motherboards and I7 compatible DDR3 Memory by then to choose from.

I still remember Stelly going on about his pre ordered X6800 before the Dothan core arrived. Now that was a stupid purchase.:)

Not really a stupid investment for somebody like me sitting on an Athlon XP box...

The cost for a comparable Core 2 setup would be... err... comparable if we're looking at stock performance. Sure, it will cost 10-20% more but the improvement in interesting areas like workstation apps is - for me - quite important.

On the flip side, overclocking - for me - is the art (as such) of taking the cheapest components and getting them to work better than the more expensive ones. It used to be quite easy, but with new sockets, laser-castrated hardware and ridiculous prices, it's a bit more of a challenge.

For the record, I'm considering Core i7... I have a watercooling setup sitting around doing nothing at the moment, so...
