So who's pre-ordered a Core I7 then?

im just wondering will i7 dual cores will work like current quad cores ? will they use those extra 2 threads if game supports quad core ?

What's going on with the prices? The site says that stock is present but the price remains TBC?? All down to NDA regulations??

Are those stock levels accurate?

I don't think it's NDA as my local website has had the prices up for a week or so
It has the i7-920 for €289, i7-940 for €569 and the i7-965 for €1049

If an applications launches 4 threads then they will support those 4 threads.

The majority of the time HT is "invisible" to the underlying app, and the applications just treats it as if it is another core/cpu. The only times you ever run into problems with this approach is when you are doing some very high end (often real time based stuff) and as such EXPECT for all the threads to run concurently, which with HT is not 100% the case.

Nice to see us consumers still getting ripped off, that's 65 Euro "profit" per 920, 130 Euro "profit" per 940 and 270 Euro "profit" per 965. I'd love to run a business with such profit margins (remember web based companies have FAR lower overheads than say a shop).

I was banking more on easyrider! :D (sorry!).

he never buys the new stuff. he makes an *official* thread then slags people off in it.

id have one if the price/perfomance was better or if i wasnt already running a ddr3 qx rig

this man has it spot on
Not really a stupid investment for somebody like me sitting on an Athlon XP box...

The cost for a comparable Core 2 setup would be... err... comparable if we're looking at stock performance. Sure, it will cost 10-20% more but the improvement in interesting areas like workstation apps is - for me - quite important.

On the flip side, overclocking - for me - is the art (as such) of taking the cheapest components and getting them to work better than the more expensive ones. It used to be quite easy, but with new sockets, laser-castrated hardware and ridiculous prices, it's a bit more of a challenge.

For the record, I'm considering Core i7... I have a watercooling setup sitting around doing nothing at the moment, so...

I`ll be going Core I7, but not until march, april next year. Hopefully there will be a better selection of Motherboards and I7 compatible DDR3 Memory by then to choose from.

Exactly what I'm doing. I'm also interested in the SSD's too - hopefully they'll all come down in price at roughly the same time.

I have waited so long to upgrade i dont mind waiting to see how Deneb does first to be honest. Not like I7 is going to make much difference to me if i bought it over a C2D or something anyway for game performance.

I'm happy overclocking the nuts off my Q9450.

I can wait until Nehalem goes to 32nm, by which time there will also be cheaper SSDs to consider, and possibly Windows 7 too.

ide have one if i didn't have an E8500 & DDR2 rig. having to change the mobo/cpu & ram is just a little bit too pricey for me at the moment. + when i do go i7 i want to switch to an sff as well, and i can't see decent i7 matx mobo's being released for quite some time yet.

It is a stupid Investment at the moment. The price will be so much lower in a few months.

It won't be so much lower, it may be a little lower depending on the dollar rate. They don't really have any need to drop the price, I think a lot will hinge on when they decide to get the mainstream chipset/socket out LGA1156 this will signal the move to DDR3 and should start to see DDR3 take over and drop to price parity with DDR2.

Unless your ready for an upgrade then go for it,alturnativly upgrading to the latest core2 plus Mboard&Ram would save you around £150 give or take

HI there

Yep they are up, pricing is ridiculous but an exchange rate of 1.47 has really pushed the pricing of these massively upwards. Stock is rather limited too and if dollar keeps going downwards they will just get more expensive......

Gibbo, Any word on OCZ 6gb 1600mhz kits and new Thermalright 1366 kits?

Really want an i7 965 but need the bits to go with it also!

Yes - I'd be interested in the TRUE 1366 kits (and the Copper TRUE too)

It's not just the i7 range... the Q9550 is £270 now!
