So who's pre-ordered a Core I7 then?

I'm almost ready to pull the trigger, just sorting out all the rest of the parts.

But I'm also in two minds with regards to this upgrade, I'm thinking of waiting until the Rampage II Extreme and CPU water blocks are available.

Also does anybody know if I'll be able to use multiple screens if I SLI two 280 GTX cards?

The Rampage two is a very pricey board!!!

I may get awfully tempted to get the following to fill my new case next week:

Intel Core i7 920 2.66Ghz (Nehalem) (Socket LGA1366) - Retail
Asus P6T Deluxe Intel X58 (Socket 1366) PCI-Express DDR3 Motherboard
OCZ 6GB DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Gold (3x2GB) Triple Channel DDR3 (OCZ3G1600LV6GK)

learn how to overclock on that and then upgrade the processor Q4 next year.

Time to see where I can locate some money to see if I get more tempted.

Ohh balls, the RAM is not in stock:(, the Thermaltake LGA1366 kit would be nice as well

I think I'm going to hold out until sometime next week

Any body know what the expected prices are on The Rampage II Extreme?

Its probably one of those "if you have to ask, you can't afford it" type prices - I would expect it to be £400 or more - but that's just a guess - based on me thinking I saw $5xx mentioned on some forum somewhere.

Well as it stands this upgrade will cost me around £2250 another £150 or so wont make too much of a difference, I'm just tying to set myself a ball park budget as I also want to buy the Missus a Rolex for xmas. Mind you £400+ for a mobo is kind of extortionate.

Multiple monitors with XFire shouldn't be a problem right?

Nope - can't remember the spec of the rampate -but even the P6T has 3 x16 slots (with x32 bandwidth between them) - there is also a Workstation version of the P6T - but that may just have 64-bit PCI as well.

Just had a look at around 10 reviews on the i7, looks like they are worse than core 2 for games :/

Guess everyone knows this allready, but i'm defo not going for it just yet because of this, it would be a down-grade for me.

Can you post some of these links? Doubt it can make it much worse than my crusty 9800gx2.

I have one question guys. will the current Intel 1366 X58 Motherboards and the ones that will be coming out in the next 5 months should be compatible with Intel's Westmere as well? The reason why i'm asking is because Westmere is supposed to be for Intel 1366 X58 and I really don`t fancy having to purchase another Motherboard just to be able to upgrade to this new processor when it comes out.

Thank you for the response.
