So who's working Christmas Eve (especially retail workers)?

Work at a university, so we technically closed on the 21st until the 3rd, though teaching ended the week before, so there have been no students to deal with anyway.

Did used to enjoy working Christmas day in a pub though - get out of the house, short shift, good mood, free drink from every other customer :p Christmas eve behind a bar...yeah not so much.

Right?

Did have a short day at work tomorrow, just 2 deliveries both in North London. Due to production issues in the factory I now also have an afternoon trip to Stratford upon Avon. So probably 12 hours plus depending on the traffic, hopefully less.

If anybody, especially a customer, comes up to me tomorro2w and asks me why the co-op's closed on Christmas day instead of being open, I'm surely tempted to offfer them my unifiorm and tell them if they want the place to be open on christmas day, they can borrow my uniform and work there on christmas day but they won't get paid and there won't be any special transport laid on for them.
My ex worked at a supermarket (different company to mine) and we walked past his work to get to his mum’s on Christmas Day.

There was always about 10 people queuing outside right by the A1 sized poster with opening hours. A few recognised my ex and asked when the store would be open. My ex smiled and said Merry Christmas to them and we carried on walking.

One man one year stood outside for three hours on Christmas morning. How pathetic.

If anyone asks why we are closed on CD - I just say it’s the law! Customers instantly shut up. Love killing off a customer’s stupid questions and an argument which I can see happening.

Those who ask if we are open on CD have never worked in retail.

If you are on Facebook and on your local Spotted groups, there is always some saddo asking if any shops are open.

As some people have no clue how to plan! They buy at the moment

“Can I pick up my turkey on Christmas Day?”

So tempted to say yes you can. Store will be locked and majority of lights off:cry:

Most of them literally say "I've forgotten to buy gravy" or some other little thing and do people know anywhere that's open.
It's not like they're expecting to pick up their full Christmas dinner.

My ex’s dad dropped the Xmas pud and made a mess. He went to a few neighbours and got a pudding a neighbour got a pudding in his Christmas hamper from work and doesn’t like them

All of my employers have worked on Christmas Eve if it fell on a weekday.

What @1664kronenbourg really meant is whether we work weekends and bank holidays.

I worked in a Spar for a few years where Saturday was one of my shift days. That included Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve in one year.

My other 3 employers (MOD, private IT firm and NHS) were 9-5 jobs, although in the IT firm, I did work 1 Saturday morning every 3rd Saturday for about a year.

I'd offer them my uniform and tell them that they can work there themselves but with no pay or transport laid on if they want the place to be open on Christmas day.
