So WTF was Quake III Arena about then?

As far back as I can remember I remember launching the game and just shooting random bots and completing the objectives. Like for example:
"You must kill at least two creatures"
Then it would go on to say
"You must kill at least four creatures"

What was the point behind it? How did they manage to make a sequal behind it? Oh, same question applies to Unreal Tournament as well :)

It's a highly successful multiplayer game, which is what it primarily designed for, following on from the great multiplayer success of Quakeworld and Quake II. It wasn't designed to be a single player game, hence why playing on your own only gives you bots on normal levels.

Quake 4 was a mix of proper single player and multiplayer, using the Doom 3 engine to give a good followup to Quake 2 story-wise, and an attempt to follow up Quake 3's multiplayer.

Quake 4 was primarily an individual deathmatch, team deathmatch and capture the flag game. At the time of release, Unreal Tournament had a lot more team based game modes and had a different appeal to that of Quake 3 Arena. It was still hugely popular, hence why we're still seeing Unreal Tournament games being made now.

You don't understand Q3 and UT simply because you don't play online. :p

Its an online game, not a single player game. Although they do have very short single player maps.

Halo may be a good FPS in the console world, but it cetainly doesn't hold anything to any of the recent (past 8 years) PC multiplayer, and singleplayer games. In my opinion.

Quake 2 was my first online gaming experience ... blew me away and then so did Quake 3 when it came out .... only played Quake 4 on a demo and still aint coughed up £9 for full version ... think I should ?

As for Quake 3 what was it about... I think at time it was hittin £35 but now its an ebay cheapy ...

The man speaks the truth. Console fps has yet to match q1,q2,q3,ut,ut2k3,4 etc.

I'm the only one ive ever heard with the balls to say Halo (halo 1 at least) sucked balls. It was pants :(
I was well and truly disappointed as well... but saying it sucks balls is nothing more than a disguised compliment to games like daikatana.

No im with you comrade, Halo sucks balls fullstop.

FPS on consoles sucks balls and Halo was the flagship bull sucker for the x-box.

It dosnt even begin to touch quake for playability i see it as just another incredibly good franchise for the console kids.

As a PC game, overall, it was 4 years out of date, it was a *good* console FPS, but it was not a very good PC game whatsoever.

I didn't think much of it either.. Infact, I played it for a bit, realised it was pants and boring and then never completed it.. Maybe it was designed more with the console gamer in mind.. Shorter attention span and all. :p

Actually i have to take a little back. If it wasnt for goldeneye on the N64 i would have probably not have got into PC gaming and HL - so then no CS no Day of Defeat, no UT then no Planetside etc etc.

Christ i would be so much better off, finacially mentally probably even physically
tee hee ;)
