Do you mind if I disagree with all you guys and found Halo 1 far far better than any of the FPS that came out on the PC in the last ten years? Have fun feeling annoyed at my opinion ;)
Leave this thread now
How on earth can you justify that?

Oh yeh, UT > Quake

It depends which Quake you're talking about. ;).

I was well and truly disappointed as well... but saying it sucks balls is nothing more than a disguised compliment to games like daikatana.
Never have so many, waited so long, for something so ****. :p.

I was bitterly disappointed with Q3 when it came out - lack of single player mode aside (which was bad enough), the lack of game modes made it a simple deathmatch client with nice graphics at a time when HL based mods (and UT of course) were doing a hell of a lot more.

I installed it on Xmas day (when I got it) and had given up on it by boxing day. It wasn't until Urban Terror came along that I actually dusted it off and got some use out of it.

iD really should sub-contract someone else to do the gameplay for their pretty engines :)

Right, so you think UT is better than Quakes 1, 2, 3 and 4? I believe you're an idiot :p.
Why thank you :)

I do indeed, UT99 has far more depth than any Quake Game I have played, the weapons are more exciting and unique, they have more than one firemode (thank god)
The sound on the original UT is damn good too, great music, great atmosphere, can't remember Quake really having much of that.
mmmmmm mucho gameplay and variation :)
Not to mention that (apart from Quake4) the graphics in UT are much better :)

You're Welcome. :p

I think Quake 1 & 2 have a far better depth and story than UT99 does, The sound is Quake 2 is good, the music isn't as good though. Not sure what you mean by atmosphere though :\.

The gameplay is going to be different, as Quake's mainly single player, and UT's multiplayer, strung together by a couple of menus ;).

I'd be inclined to say that Q3's graphics were better than UT99's, it's hard to tell as the quality is pretty similiar (they were both released about the same time).

Quake is better than UT in terms of storyline/singleplayer, but UT's multiplayer is far better.

I like all kinds of shoot em up don't get me wrong, surely quake isn't the best shoot em up theres the likes of half life, battlefield, cod, moh, unreal..... have you checked the reviews of the recent quakes they arn't doing too good. Halo might of been better if it was repackaged to suit the pc i guess. but console wise people just go crazy over it.

battlefield etc came after quake 3 so there bound to be better providing its all designed around gameplay, and yes recent quake games are crap for multiplayer in the sense they've gone graphics > gameplay/fun.

I disagree. I think all the Quake games are of equal standing in multiplayer. They're all definitely "Quake", and each has it's own little set of pro's and cons.....I love them all. I always fail to understand how people can love one Quake game and be so critical of another.......they're pretty much the same and it only takes a short amount of time to get used to one or the other  I played Q2 for years at a fairly high level, then Q3A for years at a similar level - Quake4 I'm not playing that much (or competitively) but I think it's just as good as the others.

Oh, and UT is for little girls :p

forgot to mention my opinion is biased (only really played Q3A online! haha)

I easily think Q3A is the best MP FPS out there (Im biased - it robbed me of my youth :p) since when you think about it and look at the bare bones of what you need to make a FPS and its mechanics, Q3A ticks all the boxes without any real extras to get in the way. Its the purest/cleanest MP FPS...

Yes its got good graphics, but nothing that special when it came out, I defy anyone to say they can play it competitively (i.e. clan matches,) without hindrance, on all the top graphics settings. Ive never played it with it all on settings on even with my many upgrades since...

Also the weapons were just enough, no real overlap and each had their targeted use which with experience changed. Im glad it didnt have multimodes for each gun, just would added too much complexity, where it wasnt needed. Perhaps the railgun should have not been as lethal as it was...

Q3A was all about speed and accuracy. I hated playing it after a long spell out, as it took a while to hone back into things, and while you were you were getting caned silly. Probably why I choose CTF long-term, found DM/TDM way too boring too quickly, while CTF added a lot of proper tactics than which gun to gib someone with...

Q3A was never meant to have a good SP, it came at a time where playing online was getting to be a big thing - id just made sure it was there for offline play and for training. I wish they had left bots in for Q4 as I loved playing me vs all in certain modes for a laugh...

The only thing I think it missed out on was more objective-type modes (only really had CTF) where you had to derive good teamplay and tactics. DM/TDM were just too maniac for me...

Its impossible to compare it to things like BF2 which set out for a different objective from the start, tbh best to break them into 2 sub-genres - MMO FPS and standard MP FPS - if thats the case nothing touches the Quake series, I just prefer Q3A out of them because of the amount of time I spent on it (Q2 came out way before I had a net con :()...

In the last census I put myself down as a 'Jedi Knight' in 2010 I wont be surprised if I put down 'Quaker' instead (haha - forgot about the other types of Quaker ;)). Probably the only thing Ive ever religiously played, roll on Quake Wars (which I hope dominants MMO FPS) and Quake 5, please go back to your roots...

Quick question, thought I'd pop it in here rather than start a new thread...

I'm trying to play Q3 CPMA instagib offline. I can play normal practice skirmish sessions easy, but once in a map in "game settings" menu, instagib option is disabled and I can't change it. Have any of you longtime Q3 palyers got a good IFFA.cfg exec I could have for CPMA 1.39? Or a reason why I can't enable it atm?
