I'm getting a chile rose spiderling to start with then getting a Flame Knee in a few weeks, Lopez recommended a juvenile Flame knee so I will put this straight into my other cage :)

Those "blue fleas" are spectacular :D

She's actually a lot brighter in real life. Think metallic turquoise!! :D I've just found a minute cricket in with the bigguns that I feed the girls, so I lifted it out with tweezers and popped it in her cup in case she fancies a nibble.

Repo - EXCELLENT book :) Tells you all you need to know!

SaBBz - Sounds like the best plan to me :) Get used to your Chille Rose, and then you can build on your collection! It'll be nice to have a spiderling and a juvenille too. I like the size variation between my 3.

Decided this morning that the Orange Flea needed to be given a name.
Suntigers originate from the rainforests of Venezuela, so I was looking at another Latin American or Spanish name.
Didn't fancy anything like Hector, Rodriguez etc so I did some research on the country itself.
I found that Venezuela is divided into several States, so I picked my favourite from the list.

Welcome aboard, Guarico. :D

Guarico01

Guarico has been a total pet rock so far - hasn't moved a millimeter overnight. I think he might be a touch stressed out from all the moving around, so maybe he'll settle over the next few days.

OK! i think i have now gone blind, i have just read all 24 pages of this thread as i started out not realizing how old it was, must say i've been amazed.

The first few pics kinda creeped me out bigtime and i found the moulting pictures amazing as it's something i've always wondered how they do.

Good luck with the new arrivals u lot, not sure if id have the stomach to keep 1. must admit this thread has tempted me.

Keep it coming! ;)

24 pages! Christ I never realised it had grown that big.

Moults are amazing to actually watch - hopefully these 2 babies will be moulting very frequently over the next few months. I can never relax properly with slings this small wandering about.

Stumpy you wimp!:p

I really want a baby now but I cant persuade anyone into letting me have one.:(

Just order one and tell everyone TOUGH, that's what I did :D

I decided I wanted one, chose it, found a dealer, and told my parents. All they said after the initial 'URGH!! WHYYYY??' was 'well as long as it doesn't escape, and you look after it'. Then I went out and got tank, substrate etc. and ordered my baby :) Similar story with my housemates, only Jezzie had actually arrived before I told them - one of them still doesn't know because she hates me, so would probably cause problems if she found out. Most of my uni mates want to have a look when they come round, and all seem very interested.

I've just brought my three home from uni, and my whole family wanted to meet them as soon as they arrived. My dad sat on my bed peering into Rio's tank whilst she stalked a cricket. Even my mum wants a closer look... she wants me to pick Jez up for her :) They're all very inquisitive and keep asking questions. So it looks like my babies have been accepted by the family

They're very small, unobtrusive little pets. People really think it's going to be escaping and going on a killing spree every 5 minutes. They couldn't be more wrong.

Well, I don't think hunting an escaped Mugabe would be classed as fun - he runs faster than I think ;)

The new fleas seem to be settling fine incidentally - Oiseau doesn't appear to have eaten but Guarico certainly has, judging by his nicely swollen abdomen. :)

Just need them to grow big enough to get some decent macro shots, hehe.

ok just an update on my versicolour ( haven't decided on a name yet )

it's seem to have settled into it's jar and has made a framework of web that it kinda hangs mid air on near the bottom of the jar just a few cm's off the dirt and between the chunk of cork bark and the side of the glass.

I dropped in a cricket today. It was a dead but but not intentional but it got slighly crushed when i caught it. The cricket fell into the webbing and i left it as that and went to work. Just come home today and i see that the cricket is just a shell but the best thing was the little furball had moved it to the top of the cork bark at the top of the honey jar where i can clear it away with little fuss :D i hope he makes that his "dumping ground" as it's convinient for both our sakes :D

Well since Louis hasn't eaten since she arrived on Wednesday, I've been a little worried. Normally I wouldn't bother, but seeing as this is such a tiny tarantula, I was getting concerned. Anyway had a look in this morning and she was clomping around the bottom of her container spinning some web. I thought nothing of it and left her to go and do some work downstairs. I've just come back up for something and checked on her, to find a very pale looking spider sitting next to her skin  That was damn quick! I've only been downstairs for a couple of hours. She also moulted in an upright position which is a bit strange. Possibly safer for her at such a small size though, because the vermiculite might be a bit rough on such a small soft spider when it's emerging... I'm not sure.

No piccies of baby yet because she's hiding right next to the lid of the tank and she's all hunched up (like they do when they've just moulted), so I don’t want to risk hurting or stressing her by taking off the lid. I can't really tell if she's grown either because she's hunched up, but she's all pale and her legs are mint green coloured.

Here's a pic of her old skin at its most outstretched to show how TINY she is. I put a 10p and 5p on one of the pics for scale too. As you can see, she's no bigger than the 5p piece!

Jezabel has also grown considerably over the past few weeks since her last moult and is looking positively obese. She is now about the same size as Rio was when I first got her.

FAT tbh :D
