so......

The only thing you are right about is gaming devs will put money into the biggest individual platforms and for now that is the PC.

Also if consoles do more and more PC type things because of hardware changes eventually they will evolve into PCs.

TBF the PS4 and xbox one are practically PCs from gaming software production POV, the main difference, they can optimise for a limited number of models.

And I'm sure we've seen a lot more PC conversions as a result. Particularly Japanese RPGs which used to be console exclusives are coming out on PC, some even on launch day.

Some are naive to the damage created for PC gaming due to pricing past few years, regardless the reason-cost to entry has exploded, the revenue figures are entirely different genres, like for like console AAA rips PC AAA a new one, otherwise PC would be lead platform instead of behind PS/XB.

I'll probably be going PS5/XB2 on Freesync 2 TV for the cost of an equivalent 1060 gpu in ~2 years, can't see myself even replacing gaming PC if it broke, outlay would far outweigh the return of enjoyment from gaming, would just use the laptop.
You need to factor in the cost of games too though - if you only buy a few games a year then yes consoles are considerably cheaper but if you buy a lot of games then you can quickly get the money back; if you assume that a decent gaming PC will cost about £600 more than a console and that you can get the same game for PC around £25 cheaper compared to console if you know where to shop, then once you've bought 24 games you have made back the £600 difference...

I just bought Injustice 2 for £10.99 from CDkeys for example - the cost of the same game from the same place for XBOX One is £48.99.

I can find Injustice 2 on PS4 for around 13.95 (physical). Old consoles games bar Nintendo exclusives are plenty cheap these days.

PC being better value due to cost of games for any newcomers is pretty much a myth at this point. Steam sales are far less good for newer titles (you can find GTA V cheaper on PS4/XBoxOne than steam), console physical releases have better resale value and PC gamers like to neglect to mention the price of bluetooth wireless dongles, XBOX one/360 charging cables + receivers, controllers, keyboards, mice, windows OS price, etc.

I think where PC shines is being able to "remaster" old games yourself aka by changing the resolution.

Now consoles have met the 60fps requirement, the gap is being bridged fast. Take into account they offer more consistent HDR support and the gap gets even smaller. Of course PCs still have mods/kb+m/higher resolutons/ultrawide/higher hz if you have the juice and will always be superior but PC gaming.

IMO PC gaming is the best but no longer can be called good value compared to the consoles.

Even if you just want to upgrade the gpu it's becoming a myth too as you can trade in console games to reduce outlay, once I complete a title, I never go back it's done.

At this point, the only games I'm interested in buying is AAA titles and there isn't enough of them released to claw back what ~£450 JUST for a 1*70 grade gpu never mind almost the rest of a system should cpu or MB fail on me now.

Factor in my Steam has a backlog longer than I'm going to play which my laptop could play them all very well never mind the gaming PC.

Yeah they're all valid points your making and admit to always forgetting about the selling and purchasing of pre-owned games. Perhaps we just have to accept we're paying for the privilege of having the best possible gaming experience. The value of that experience in terms of money will be different for everyone.

Usually, for me, trading in you lose like 50% the value vs purchase price or more, especially at GAME.

, problem being I wouldn't mind so much if it was (personally)still the best possible gaming experience, it used to be but now I'm not feeling it anymore.

Feel like the hardware vendors are just taking the urine now with simply pushing the resolution up and up being an after thought with vendor controlled effects/performance costs tacked on at the end that aren't all that anymore causing hardware hits.

At the same time, game graphics in the titles I'm interested in are going nowhere due to the console being lead AAA platform now.
