so......

Not with the current and increasing price gulf and fact consoles are using PC hardware.

I quoted the Titan V to highlight the fact that even a very old PC can be massively upgraded.

The more PC hardware consoles use, the more you make the case for the PC not dying in the gaming sector.

Most of the PC gaming hardware sales increase is due to mining not gaming

I'm not saying PC gaming is dying but I wouldn't say its not on the decline, its too expensive for most people the majority of PC gamers play esport titles on low spec PCs. A lot of PC gamer enthusiasts have jumped shipped to consoles

Latest figures based on software sales show PC gaming is growing.

Yup. Pretty sure I remember looking at the revenue trend on nvidia’s quarterly financial releases and it shows a trend going up for the gaming segment.

Non of which are healthy for the PC gaming market.

Some are naive to the damage created for PC gaming due to pricing past few years, regardless the reason-cost to entry has exploded, the revenue figures are entirely different genres, like for like console AAA rips PC AAA a new one, otherwise PC would be lead platform instead of behind PS/XB.

I'll probably be going PS5/XB2 on Freesync 2 TV for the cost of an equivalent 1060 gpu in ~2 years, can't see myself even replacing gaming PC if it broke, outlay would far outweigh the return of enjoyment from gaming, would just use the laptop.

It looks like AMD have put some cards kn the table. 7nm looks good, around 35% performance increase and twice the density. I guess we will have to wait and see how that breaks down for the next chips. They have plenty of silicon to increase the CU count as well as increase speed.

Vega on 7nm is not for consumers though, it is for HPC and deep learning, and not with mass availability until next year.

You can buy a full blown console system with a very high spec GPU for a fraction of the price. Less than the cost of middle of the road graphics card.
Sure can, annoying as it is, a console does not support keyboard and mouse and I would not be able to use my steam library. So not really the same thing. Also soon with the new graphics cards on the way I will be doing 4K 60fps high consoles also cannot do.

The Xbox one supports keyboard and mouse along with freesync.

Future for home entertainment will be something based on Volta and future chips with the same features.

The learning capabilities and advanced AI features of professional Volta make any future console look like the Dodo.

I know I am looking more than 5 years into the future but for that future consoles are massively limited whereas the PC is not.

The console can move as fast as the PC now they both use the same hardware. It all comes down to price and if it's worth building that big expensive box and have it sitting in a room with a lot of expensive peripherals.

Sadly AMD do not make any chips with advanced learning capabilities or AI like that found in Volta, so if consoles continue to use AMD chips they are at a dead end.

Also consoles have never ever been able to move at the same pace as PCs, show me a console that can run 2160p on any game with all the settings maxed out like a Titan V can. This is not going to happen even with the next gen consoles.

Future PCs will continue to get smaller for home use and won't always use their keyboards but their strength is they can use their keyboards if needed.

Keyboards are a must in Star Trek so it must be true that PCs will continue to dominate.:D

The real point here is keyboards + PCs give options that can not be copied on consoles.

Nvidia charge too much, don't have a DX12 design and can't offer a X86 CPU/APU.

If the PC industry sits with 4K as a standard that plays into the consoles hands. Really for the cost the PC should be pushing 15-20 megapixels now, but in reality the majority of PC master race are running 1920x1080 60Hz. If the Playstation 5 uses Ryzen and Vega ( and it most likely will) the console market will be more than capable of running 4K above 60Hz

The real point is the cost makes the gaming PC laughable while consoles are quickly closing the gap :)

gpu prices are definitely an issue, i bought a ps4 pro, vr headset 6 games and move controllers and price was less than some 1080ti's

My little 24/7 PC can run a lot more than 15-20 megapixels if it wants to, 8k maxed out does look nice and I don't think there is any way a console could get close to that for image quality for a very long time.

As to closing the gap, I don't think so. Consoles can not beat PCs for image quality even when they are brand new and worse than that because you can not upgrade them you have to wait a very long time for the next gen console to arrive.

It would certainly be a no-brainer if one of the consoles added support for Steam, since the Steam Box idea appears to have died.
