Socket 1156 Coolers

I phoned Overclockers the other day asking about the Noctua and was told they would have stock next week. Been hanging out to order i7 860 and all the bits.

Just received this response from an email i sent prolimatech regarding their 1156 backplate as it's listed on their site.

Hi,

Sorry we don't have a specific timetable.
Mega Shadow and the 1156 backplate will be released soon, before the
end of Oct.
You can have the latest information on *competitor edited*
Thank you

Best regards,

End of october's a long time to wait, im idling 40c at stock with my core i5 and stock cooler :(
Megahalems is better then a noctua but i think il just get whichever comes in stock first, tired of waiting and i want to overclock.

the ninjas do not fit

i cant get my ninja to fit onto my msi board as the bracket is just a sliding 775 to 1366 but it dose not allow the push pins to press down enough to be secure as the cpu sits to high

You shouldn't have needed to bend anything, it just clicks in like a normal retail fan, it couldn't be easier tbh ;)

What sort of temps are you getting? Are you overclocking? What sort of voltage are you putting through your cpu and memory?

a i see you have the evga board and it looks as though the cpu sits a bit lower than on the msi gd 65.

core: 4.2ghz
voltage 1.41 from cpu-z although set to auto in bios
memory has 1.5v going through it.

idle temps

38 39 38 39

load temps under prime 95 went up to 75C

due to the heat sink being so big ive had to re route my air flow through the case not the best of routes tho:(

That's a good overclock :) Didn't realise the heatsink on the MSI board would get in the way.

temps are not that bad.

The temps are pretty bloody good to be fair matey, what's your beef with the Scythe? Or is it the fact you had a bit of a mare getting it on that has stifled your enthusiasm :p

yeah the temps are good for a cheapish end cooler.

just a bit annoyed that i had to alter the bracket really.

and i should have checked about the size lol.....i could only put a fan on the cooler in one direction due to the motherboard heat sinks thus forcing me to have to change the direction of air flow through the case.

i think im still gonna try my thermalright HR-01 Plus when i can get a bracket as the quality just seems a lot better plus it was just as cool on my q6600 with 1.6v going through it.

* TOP NOTCH base on the scythe though flat as anything*:D;)

Errrrrrrrrrrr, Thats horrible, I hate those types of spring loaded rubbish. I would never trust a heavy cooler on those. IMO only get a cooler with a proper back plate. The Noctua is a work of mechanical genius compared to that picture!

Get a grip mate, you only have to check my temps to see it works fine, besides which you can't even see it once it's fitted

Yawn. BTW one hour of Prime 95 is meaningless. Minimum proof of temp is 8 hours and even then whats the stability like over say six months? Trust me those spring clips are utter sh&t. Its very easy with those clips not to get a proper attachment to the mobo. There is no way I would trust a spring clipped cooler to provide proper even contact to the cpu, especially in a tower case when a heavy cooler is hanging with its own weight.
Also I have know a clip to come loose after a few months!!! People IMO are by passing the basics. I have seen lots of posts recently, rushing to get the best overclock on an i5. So what. I got 4.2ghz out of my i7 860. It was stable in prime 95 for a few hours. After 7 hours prime failed, and BTW the temps where off the chart.

IMO, dont make do with a cooler, becuase it fits and you want to rush into an overclock, so you can post your CPUz. Quality IMO, not compromise.

blah blah blah blah snip

You really do come accross as very condescending  Just for your information I've been working in the computer industry for the last 12 years in production, engineering, first line support, r + d and the list goes on. Out of the thousands of pc's that I've seen and fixed, I'm fairly sure from what I can remember I've never come accross an Intel retail fan that's come loose on it's own accord, once it's on it's on and it isn't going anywhere. You seem to be forgetting the fact that Intel have been using this very design since the implementation of the LGA 775 socket ;)
The only possible reason it's going to come loose is by bad installation.

Yes I haven't yet done 8 hours of prime, unfortunately I haven't had the time as my pc is in constant use. I will get round to doing it sooner or later so be ready to eat some humble pie :p

Sorry if your offended. You dont have to justify your qualifications. But since you did, WTF is front line support??? Do you need a Degree for that? Or a Masters? Or a Phd? Engineering; grease monkey or IEEE?
