first off, let me make something clear, im not hating on any product, im not endorsing one over another either
lets break it down shall we, traktor costs what, about 450 quid, thats on htfr which is notoriously overpriced, it comes with their soundcard, which seperate costs in the region of 320 for the 8 in 8 out or 170 quid for 4 in 4 out, take that off your package price and traktor is now the cheapest piece of software available, as im sure you dont get the 4 in 4 out option with scratch pro, could be wrong though
serato are not selling their soundcard seperately, you buy the sl3 soundcard and get serato with it, this is quite clever as it stops piracy on their software as you are paying a massive amount for the only card that will work with the software, this is why you can buy serato timecodes seperate, traktor, you cant buy the timecode, it comes with the software, thats how they try to avoid piracy
vdj on the other hand, is separate software for use with any brand 4 in 4 out soundcard, thats why its rife on torrent sites, however if youre legit it will cost you 200 quid, how much you spend on the soundcard is upto the user, they range from 60 quid upwards, if you bought the audio 8 dj from NI that traktor sell you then the whole package becomes well over 500 quid, more than traktor scratch pro, so the argument of vdj being cheap ass software is rubbish, you can download the cd timecode from their website or use a number of different manufacturers timecodes for use with it
I dont know what youre on about saying proprietary hardware keeps latency down, you do understand how timecode works? its not like internet speeds, all soundcards are either usb or pci internal cards, but its the asio driver(universal one for all driver) that turns your timecode signal to mp3 control, no card will give you a lower latency, you pay extra for more options in the interface or connectivity, not faster latency
finally, you get equal levels of support from all manufacturers, theres no hardware problems as its all ASIO control, and all 3 softwares work very well
my problem here is when people come along and say 'vdj, haha its rubbish, i have traktor/serato, its much better' basically words to that effect, because thats rubbish, and where do you get market stats from, who said which is the market leader, they all say that, in fact it cant be tested, serato has been in clubs for years, so it always will be, occasionally you see a club with traktor in, it too has been around for a long while, its a standard for a reason, simply so there is a standard, to make it easier for visiting dj's, go to a place that does video mixing, you wont see serato or traktor for dust
