Solar panels and battery - any real world reccomendations?

I just contacted these guys as I'm looking to get solar and battery now that payback is reasonable timescale and they want £40 to produce a quote based on google earth before they will even come out and survey? Seems a bit cheeky to me, anyone had this before?

not to do a remote quote, had one say there was a charge for an in person survey (that would be refunded if we went with them)... guess its getting to be a sellers market but personally wouldn't pay for a quote.

I'm not intending to. Was a bit of a surprise when I called them.

Had a quote of £12k for:

5.6kw panels (14*405 Longi black)
Solis 5G 5kw inverter
Schletter mounting
3.6kw Fox charge controller
3 x 2.6 KWH HV2600 Fox battery

(Fully inclusive price)

Does this seem reasonable? Had a slightly cheaper quote (11.2k) for similar spec but using JA panels and Givenergy batteries.

Located near St Andrews
Who did you get your quote from?

I live in Dunfermline and got a price from RB Grant of £13.5k for a 5.2kw Givenergy battery and 7kw of panels

Are the prices in Scotland higher due to being able to get a 0% loan from the Scottish government? Seems like it might be, as it makes things much more accessible for many more people, although kind of defeats the point.

RB grant were 11200 for 5kw panels and 9kw batteries. The panels were JA with silver trim whereas the other quote has all black panels which okie think looks much better

Could well be as I’m being encouraged to take out the loan. Take it the prices are quite different down south?

Thought the equipment seemed similar. Who Was the other installer that quoted you?

It seems to be ~10% more from the few quotes I have seen for North of the border. It's just like the blooming EV chargers, when you were getting £500 grant the charger installs prices were jacked up a lot to take advantage of it.

Try greener energy group. I tried RB Grant and Alba Heat and Power and got blanked pretty much. Greener Energy Group came out, gave me a quote, were happy to wait until I was sure about it (was fairly priced compared to indicative quotes I'd had elsewhere).

They let me pay the whole lot on my credit card as well (25% up front and 75% on completion). I then used the cash I got from Scot Gov to pay off the card.

Their back office seems to be quite busy but the roofers look to have done a good job and the electricians were brilliant.

I was a bit wary of them initially as when the booked the appointment to come and do a survey they said both myself and my wife had to be present which makes it sound like the old days when I was selling kitchens and wanted a finance sale (eg, selling finance deals as opposed to a product) but there was no pressure on the day at all and they were quite happy to give me time to think about it - none of the old discount if you sign today stuff.

Thought I may as well join the bandwagon! The price of energy (especially the forecast rises over the coming year(s) seems to make it a no brainer at this point.

11 x 385w JA Panels (4.24kw)
Growatt SPH3600 Hybrid Invertor
Growatt 6.5kw Battery

Installed and fitted price (with bird protection) £10,200 which seems about the average I am seeing so far.

The roof that all 11 panels will be sited on is around 20deg off South so should give me some decent production!

I work from home predominantly and installed heat pumps in 2 bedrooms and the main living area so hoping to be able to use up most of what I produce myself :) I look forward to guilt free cooling next summer!

Been quoted 6-8 weeks lead time but we shall see on that.

Has anyone managed to get onto the Octopus Go tariff without an EV? Seems like it could be useful during the winter months to top up the battery overnight on the cheap :) Especially if I later decide to add a second battery....

Install date now confirmed as 5th September which is a bonus as was told to expect October!

Is the general consensus to try and pay the balance by credit card to get the added protection? (I already paid a £1500 deposit by credit card back when I signed on the dotted line) Cash is already in the bank ready to pay it off...

Is the HIES warranty worth the paper its printed on, anyone ever had to claim off of it?

Wrong time of year really to see what it can really do but excited to see what I can save :)

I'm paying mine on CC as I get 1% cashback or so. Have the cash to pay it so I'll just pay it off month 1 and pocket the cashback :)

Think you're covered by CC protection for whole amount if you paid any of it on CC though.

Had a quote for a 7.5 Kw system with a Tesla Powerwall 2 for £17400.00. This is made up of 19 JA solar panels in an east/west configuration. The price breakdown is £9300 for the panels and £8126 for the Powerwall (installed prices).

My real question is whether the Powerwall is worth the money? There must be other systems that do the same job but are cheaper. Any thoughts?
