So, the Jag got traded yesterday. It was a good car but Jag just aren't looking after their customers, they've oversupplied the car and the values are yet again going through the floor.

I managed to get out for a relatively meager loss and moved into something far more special.

Car has carbon ceramic brakes, carbon bucket seats, carbon wheel, carbon engine bay and a lot more inside too. I'll let the pics do the talking and leave it up to you whether I made the right decision!

Nope sorry, preferred the jag. Or should've splashed out more on a 458!

Honestly the Jag while a great car will never be an exotic. Why would I buy an inferior car to the MP4 for more than twice the price of what I just paid?!

this is nice but that colour not sure.. black would probably be better.. DAT JAG IMO was better.. who cares what the price of the car is if you're enjoying it? why does it matter that JAG made it cheaper for others to buy? why does it matter than its common? I don't get it..

I can't say the value is what made me change, it's just one factor. The jag was a good car but it is very heavy, the chassis is dead and there's not much character to it. Basically it lacked any sense of occasion.

Is this chopping and changing common at this end of the market? I can see the used car adverts for 5 year old Ferrari's now - Full service history, 25000 miles, 36 careful owners :p

I see what you are getting at with regards to resale but seriously if that is a big enough concern to get you changing cars again so soon are you really best off continuing to buy modern sports/supercars? They are all going to drop money at a fairly hefty rate.

I lose very little if any when changing. I'm a car enthusiast, I have no brand loyalty and believe in trying as many as I can :)

It tends to be like this in every thread.

Gets new car, it's amazing, laps up the compliments. Few months later, said car is crap and full of flaws as a new car is bought.

Rinse repeat.

He doesn't post in any other threads either. Just comes on forum to post pictures of new car. I know the guy is liked by members but it does strike me as, image is most important and that getting attention is key.

Beanys on my Facebook and I'm sure he commented on the post where iceman said his girlfriend had bought him a new car.

You're entitled to your opinion but your post is full of incorrect information.

I have never once said the cars I've owned before are "crap". All cars have negatives, people ask why I traded so I give them answers. Would you like me to tell you how my 430 is also not that great in places? I have 2/3 flaws with the car that I could easily talk about - no-one has come up with the perfect car yet and thank god they haven't.

Second, I post only where I feel I can give useful input. You'll see I've given advice in a few threads in the motors forums and I actually used to be a very active member in the computer hardware sections. It's no skin off my nose, nor will it ruin my day if I stop posting new cars here. I do it because I thought members here liked to see the cars, if not, I will not post another car here again.

Lastly, there's a large difference between girlfriend and wife. I have the latter. As strange as it may seem, we work as a team, we buy things together. I'm really not sure how you got "thank you to my wife" as "my wife bought me a Ferrari". We discuss every major purchase and we achieve them together, that's what works for us. Besides, who cares if my wife did actually buy it outright? I'd classify that as being a lucky man!!

I kind of agree. Surely if you can afford to buy such exotic cars, you can afford not to be too bothered by depreciation?

Thats not a criticism, I can understand if you just want to experience as many cars as possible and therefore get rid of them quickly to avoid their value falling before you move on. But I cant see it being a prime motivation to change cars, for someone in your position.

Still...worrying about the resale of such cars must be a nice worry to have, so im still bloody jealous :p

Edit...you pretty much answered my questions above as I was posting.

I know you edited this but I wanted to answer the first part anyway.

I don't care how wealthy you are, at least from my perspective, I can't afford to throw money down the drain. Yes I lose money trading cars but I'd like to lose as little as possible! I'm not made of money, I live a quite modest life actually, I just prioritize :)

I had a couple of silly issues, most notably the paint defect which causes paint to chip off on the panel joins at the rockers on black and green paint. The other one was the passenger door catching the bonnet every time I opened it, causing paint damage.

I'll clarify a bit for you all as I can see how the two posts can be taken as opposites yet in reality they're not quite that far adrift.

The F-Type is a heavy car, we all know that. What I will say, is that it hides its weight very well and handles exceptionally. To those of you that have driven a Ferrari or similar, you'll understand how a good handling car can not always be quite as interesting, lively or fun as something like the F430.

My quote about the lack of character is just that and I would've never denied that from the get-go. In fact, that was one of the major reasons I was struggling with the F-Type decision when I bought it, coming from the Aston Martin.

Overall, my opinion on the F-Type hasn't changed at all. I will say from having put 4k miles on it that its weight, while hidden well and combined with the steering, tends itself to a bit of a numb drive. I wanted something a little more exciting to drive and a 430 spider definitely fits that bill. I liked the interior on the F-Type too but as I mentioned in my decision thread, it's nowhere near the quality of the Aston Martin, they did cheap out in a few places.

Basically, I enjoyed the F-Type, I'd probably have another one sometime but I was ready to move on. I was actually going to buy an Audi R8 instead but we stopped by the Ferrari dealer on the way - you can see what happened!

How are Jag failing you, by just selling a lot of cars or is there something else? I've noticed that with high end owners, they feel that the manufacturer has a responsibility to keep the residules higher for their owners, although it works both ways. A friend if mine was selling a hyper car and was phoned by the manufacturer and told that they were selling it too cheaply on the second hand market, their response was "well then buy it back off me for more", funnily enough they didn't.

Absolutely love the Ferrari, surprised to see you in an older model though. The interior is gorgeous and I think the yellow convertable aspect is perfect for where you are. Congrats, much prefer it to the Jag.

Residuals are actually a major consideration when buying a high end car. Some manufacturers get it right, look at the 458 for example, supply is controlled and demand is kept very high because of it. As such, residuals stay quite high.

Both Aston Martin and Jaguar play the same game in that they love to throw money at the cars to make them move off the forecourt. Case in point, AM were giving $20k incentive off MSRP to every dealer just to sell more cars. Jag are now doing the same but $10k for the F-Type. No-one wants to lose money but when you've just stumped up $110k for a car and you go to trade it in, only to be told "we're selling brand new ones for $10k off or more", it's frustrating. If it's such a hot car, it shouldn't need money thrown at it to make it move. There are 1200 F-Type's for sale now in the US whereas back in August, there were less than 2 spare cars per dealer.

Mclaren did the same thing with the MP4-12C. The Asian market fell through and they dumped all the cars into the US causing an overnight $30-50k drop in prices. Things are only just starting to recover now as for a while you could buy a brand new MP4 stickered at $270k for less than $195k. That wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that their major competitor, the Ferrari 458 is still trading at sticker price or higher for used ones!

Nice.
I didn't even know you could get these with a manual transmission. I approve.

They're very rare apparently, I thought I was rather lucky to find it. The car had only come into the dealer 24hrs prior to my visit!

Dave I emailed you a couple months ago but got no reply , We were in Florida for the whole of November .

I'm so very sorry if I missed that. I normally respond to your emails as you know but I don't recall seeing this one. I was dealing with a pretty major family emergency in November but that's no excuse. If you're out this way again for any reason I'll take you out for dinner :)

I like it. If I was able to buy a Ferrari, it would be rosso red with the cream interior.

Indeed, rosso corsa and tan/cream are beautiful. That's actually what I was looking for but in coupe form. I came across this by chance as I was driving up to Audi Orlando and in the flesh it's stunning. I was also amazed I'd found a manual so that was definitely in its favour.

If you bought an R8, you'd probably would have sold it in less than a month.

So in short you wanted something more agile with more feel which was not numb, so why not just take the wifes Boxster out? :p ;)

I've had a hankering for an R8 for some time but you're probably right!

We sold the Boxster right before I got the F-Type, replaced it with a 2014 Audi S5 (wife needed practicality).

Gibbo whats wrong with the R8?

Would I be crazy to be considering a 6 speed V10 coupe as an "upgrade" from the GTR next year?
Bearing in mind I like the GTR and don't want something that will kick my ass but wouldn't mind something European that makes a nice sound.

I haven't driven one yet myself and only sat in one for a bit at the dealership while waiting for my brother (he has an RS3).

Sorry for a bit off topic!

R8's are lovely cars and I'd strongly consider a V10 6MT. They're starting to date a little inside I think but they look and sound sensational. You'll find them very comfortable and quite roomy inside with significantly improved quality over the GT-R.

They are kinda similar to the GT-R though in the sense that they are very easy to drive quickly. I'd say having driven a few that they're perhaps a little more involving but they don't feel as fast as even a stock GT-R, largely due to the lack of turbos.

As Gibbo says, this budget buys you a lot of car. I'd look around and try a few. You may find a nice F430 or Gallardo if you look towards the upper end of the R8 budget.

I would have held out for a rosso red/cream leather with a manual box tbh. The yellow stands out, but the tan leather just doesn't seem to fit with it. It's a unique combo but I guess that goes in it's favour as it's out of the ordinary. Great car though. Ever looked at getting a SL65 AMG?

I could've been waiting forever for one of those. I did very well on this car as well, bought it $15-20k behind market value and it actually has one of the highest stickers of any US 430 spider manual cars.

I'm not a huge fan of the big Mercedes unfortunately. Looked at an SL65 AMG Black Series with 800+ hp but I just don't see the value in them. Lovely cars to look at and drive but I just don't find them special enough. That and my wife likes to refer to AMG as "All Money Gone".

Dude - I've never driven the F Type or the Ferrari. I do like the looks of them both though and from what I've heard the Jags exhausts noise is just sexual :o

The only other thing I have to add is:

You're going to need another siggy now bud :D

I certainly do, the right half at least.

Uh no, not at all, maybe you should read the posts I've put on this page?

I've never said once that the cars I no longer have are bad, I even offered to list faults/flaws in the new one. There is no perfect car and thankfully that's likely to never happen.

No car I've owned is bad, in fact, the only car I've ever been utterly underwhelmed by is the E92 M3.

Shame you can't :(

Next time you're over perhaps, would be good!

If you're in Sarasota, you should go to the Lamborghini dealership, they have a lot of Aventadors and even a 50th anniversary $600k roadster.

Waits for Juicemans:
'F430 was too heavy and slow, so here's my F458 instead' post. :)

Not gonna happen :)

I like the F430, but the front end just looks a bit... blunt, almost to the point Ferrari got bored designing it and slapped a block on the front.

It's the only area where I'd say they missed the mark a bit on the 430. The Scuderia/16M front bumper is much nicer however.

Lovely car, I imagine the engine sounds glorious with the roof down, which you'll get plenty of opportunity to do with Florida weather. Is the your only car? How easy is it to live with day to day?

It does sound rather nice. I still maintain the F360 is the best sounding Ferrari of recent times though.

It's not my only car no, we have an Audi S5 and a Mclaren MP4-12C as well. Oh, I shouldn't forget my little Fiat 500 Turbo that I use every day too!

It's actually quite easy to drive but not something I'd want to daily drive all the time. The MP4 would be much easier but there's something a little more special about the driving experience in the 430 than the MP4, there's a "rawness" to it that the newer supercars lack.

The S5 is the wife's car. I commute 75 miles each way currently so the Fiat actually pays me money to lease it!

Doesn't matter what car it is, if you take pride in it you want to keep it nice. Value of a car shouldn't dictate if it's well kept or not, it's just pride in what you have.

Yep, doesn't bother me one bit. Pointless and boring miles mostly on my commute. I'd rather have the toys at home and a cheap car that actually costs me nothing and is kinda fun to drive on the back roads near me.

I have been on these forums a long time and these threads used to be posted years ago but with his dads cars rather than his and I find them a bit droll compared to gibbos who's a genuine enthusiast.

All of your posts bar one have been full of incorrect statements and conjecture. You don't know me nor know anything about me and are just making yourself look bitter and jaded with your comments.

Gibbo and I know each other very well, we used to work together. Who do you think Gibbo came to before he purchased his 911 for advice and thoughts on the actual car he was looking at?

I'm one of the biggest car nuts/enthusiasts I know, in fact I spend most of my spare time researching the markets/cars/mods and speaking with members of our auto club about them. Just because I don't spend my time posting up on these forums doesn't make me any less of an enthusiast.

I spend a huge amount of time organizing and helping with various charity car events such as cars for the cure and cars for our troops that are all over the state of Florida. I also work 90 hour weeks so forgive me if I don't spam post in every single thread that I know nothing about - if I do post it's because someone has messaged me to ask me to, or if it's something I actually have a detailed or unique knowledge of.

I'm sure most people could own the cars here with a capital injection. As once you have bought them and keep mileage low then the actual cost of ownership is relatively normal. I think this is why residuals seem the most important aspect of ownership here.

Really? Is this how it works? I'm stunned.

If I gave you $500k you could buy all the cars you wanted to as well, this is hardly a revelation is it? My business/employers give me money that I use to buy cars....

As for the mileage and residual assumption, yet again you have no idea what you're talking about. I drive my cars a *lot* I just don't like to do 125 motorway miles out of my 150 mile round trip in the nice stuff when it's so boring.

Allow me to enlighten you as you seem to believe that I can't afford to run these things and that I'm evidently only owning them because I got some magical cash injection.

Cayman S - 16k miles in 12 months
911 C2S - 24k miles in 18 months
E92 M3 - 18k miles in 9 months
'09 GT-R - 18k miles in 12 months
'13 GT-R - 6k miles in 3 months
Aston Martin V8 Vantage - 10k miles in 6 months
F-Type V8S - 4k miles in 4 months

Also Ive never actually seen a picture of the car not taken on his drive :p

Just because I don't post them here doesn't mean there aren't hundreds of them from events all around the state of FL.

I'm more than happy for anyone to provide input or criticisms on this forum but please, can we stay away from mindless assumptions and conjecture?

Accepted :)

I will one day post up some proper thoughts but I rarely get the time to sit down and type up something that long. My work weeks are pretty brutal and I don't get large chunks of time, more little bits to read threads.

I have so many awesome photos, lots of professional ones in fact. I'll dig through them and post some up.

Gibbo, I'd definitely look into the 360 if you want to have a little foray into the exotic cars. I'm a huge fan of the 360, my Dad had 5 or 6 of them and I came close to buying one myself until I found this 430. They're pretty reliable, especially if you find one with a manual gearbox. The F1 actuators can be *very* expensive if/when they go bad but you lose a lot of the painful items if you stick with a manual. Belt services aren't that bad either, add another 1250-2000 for a major service over and above the regular ones but those are only every 3 years anyway.

I will be getting more GoPro videos and I'm working on getting all the professional pictures together at the moment.

As it stands, my 430 is back at the dealer having some quite extensive and expensive work done. Thankfully it's not out of my pocket as it seems that the 5th syncrho wasn't bad after all, the whole gearbox was full of debris!

So for engine mounts, exhaust brackets, headers and a whole new gearbox, the bill comes to a whopping $32k!! :o

Cost to me - $3k, they wanted me to put a new clutch in with the new box, but wouldn't pay for that bit.

Gibbo, I’m not ignoring this, I’m just working a brutal 2 weeks of nights. When I get a little downtime I will give you all the info!

Hit me up on messenger if you need something urgently.
