Some basic Android and Yahoo questions

I had a lot of difficulty with getting my Yahoo mail set up as my default account in the standard email client, too.

Finally got it working with these settings, using IMAP:
Incoming: imap.mail.yahoo.com (port 143)
Outgoing: smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com (port 587)

Note that for some reason this only works very intermittently over wi-fi, but it works perfectly over HSDPA/G/3G/etc.

110 doesnt work either, its trying as before it failed straight away, with the above settings it thinks about it then fails.

I think thats the next step, i'll get a wireless router hooked up in work and try it, if I connect it to a wireless router will automatically default to wireless for this type of thing until its diconnected or do I have to change something?

Thanks for all the help BTW

Thanks but doesnt work :(

Its set like this

Incoming server

Server type = IMAP
Server address = imap.mail.yahoo.com
Username = *******
Password = *******
Encryption = No
Server port = 143

Outgoing server

Server address = smtp.mobile.mail.yahoo.com
Username = ******
Password = ******
Encryption = No
Port = 587

Then press verify and it fails

Oh. That's annoying. I don't know if your ports will be different on a different phone (I have a Galaxy S)? I just left mine at the defaults (which are the values I wrote in above). It might be you need to try those IMAP/SMTP settings with the default ports for your phone (i.e. the ones it has in when you first come onto the set up screen).

Another possibility (and I hate to ask... :)) - for username, you're just putting what comes before the @yahoo, right?
(I know, I know, but I've made the error of including the whole thing before now...:o)

Otherwise, I really don't know. I fiddled around with my settings for ages before I got these to work, and even now it won't work half the time if I have wi-fi switched on. So it's not as if I actually really know what I'm doing! :)

Yes its extremely annoying! I've been messing for two days now!

I've changed my ports that many times I forgot what the default values are but I can reset it anyway. I'll try that next.

Yeah I dont include the @yahoo bit although I did at first! :o

I've now tried it with wifi and it still doesnt work, i'm at a loss with it now :(

Try and find another mail client from the Market, could be the Sony App.

Also, I assume you've had to create a Gmail account to sign into? You can configure this to access your pop mail address and it'll be pushed to the phone via the Gmail app.

Can't find anything on IMAP but this is for POP from the Yahoo help pages:

Code:
Incoming Mail (POP3) Server:	pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk
Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server:	smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk (use authentication, optionally use port 587)
Account Name/Login Name:	Your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com")
Email Address:	Your Yahoo! Mail address (e.g. [email protected])
Password:	Your Yahoo! Mail password

I use these settings but use port 995 for incoming and 465 for outgoing (SSL). They are the default settings. Also have the full email address for username as well.

Bizarrely, it has issues when using it over wifi. So try to use it only on 2g/3g. Also you have to set up POP forwarding in your account options.
