In response to the OcUK..Its not for Girls threads, specifically this one from Vixen,

You've been looking at avatars to assume sex and haven't yet figured out that there are only a handful available?

would it be possible to have a female avatar option available so that it is easier to distinguish when replying to posts.

Something Gangster related to keep in with the theme.

This being a progressive forum and all that....;)

We've had this before, many times.
A change would be nice, can't see it happening though.

As morba says been talked about before but they like the theme as it is (although I dont understand why!)

You'll end up with the blokes masquerading as women. There is nothing wrong with the current one. Just leave it as it is.

The discussion has been had many times, there's a few problems with it including if you have a female avatar then do you make it for females only? If so then how do you ensure that someone doesn't just pretend to be a girl? If you don't use try to make sure that it is only used by girls then what's the point - it identifies gender no more than currently exists. There's not all that many well known or good pictures of female gangsters - there are a few which have been mooted though and look ok. A few of the female members have already expressed their view that they prefer they relative 'anonymity' that is afforded by not having a female specific avatar, currently it's their choice if they wish their gender known.

Essentially it comes down to "what's the benefit" and there doesn't seem to be enough of one. As Burnsy says what difference does gender make here - someone has either a good point/input or they don't.

It's not very encouraging for the fairer sex to come on here is it, all I can see above is cars, bikes, gangsters, graffiti and superman very testosterone filled pics

You've lost me, what?

I'm not 100% but I think Castor is asking for more avatar choices than the 5 or so that you get after 10,000 posts.

I doesn't most of the time, but there are times, especially with banter that knowing the gender would be helpful.

Seems such a simple thing to ask really, in these enlightened times of equality. ;)

It's perfectly equal at the moment - everyone; man, woman or child has precisely the same choice available to them. ;)

or another point of view, whats the harm? a female avatar could be introduced for anyone to use , men or women

I thought that might be the counter - no great harm but if it's change with no point then why bother? Either you try to ensure that the gender is aligned with avatar (difficult or impossible to do) or all that happens is you're no wiser about the gender of the person if anyone can use the avatars. Although perhaps the most telling point is that a number of female members have expressed a preference not to have a female avatar.
