This was my thought.

Most people assume they are talking to males automatically, a female avatar at least gives a girl the choice of indicating their gender if they so wish.

It seems a little anachronistic to only cater for male members.

If one of the Dons cares to put up a poll for you then fair enough, I will say however that irrespective of the results (and are you just trying to quiz female members - how to enforce that other than relying on honesty?) it's highly unlikely to change since it hasn't changed after any other time it has been mooted.

Nobody has worked out that I'm female and I don't care. I don't want to be treated differently because of a male / female avatar.

It's taking away the strong anonymity here and making the poster a little bit more identifiable. Keep them as they are.

I'm not trying to question anyone, just a poll would indicate the mood of the OcUK community regardless of gender.

It's just adding an option if a woman wishes to have a non male avatar. There is nothing sinister or ulterior than that really.

I don't think they are needed really, I think most female members wouldn't use them anyway. However, one of the times it was discussed years ago I made these (they are fictional as the majority of the current ones are):

Why bother?

All the current avatars are of male gangsters, a bit one sided imo, I think it would be more interesting to have a couple of female ones too.

It doesn't need to be about recognising the posters gender.

I'm not fussed about a female avatar. Everyone automatically assumes you're a guy on here and that doesn't bother me in the slightest, it keeps everyone guessing.

It also keeps the hormonally charged at bay.

no it wouldn't. a poll would inidicate the mood of the males on ocuk; the few females who vote not to have them would get lost in the thousands males that vote yes to them. it's been said that females ask not to have it, why is that not enough?

you say it's JUST adding an option for females. do you really think that's all it will do?

Seems such a simple thing to ask really, in these enlightened times of equality.

Well if you make male only and female only avatars then you're created inequality.

But if you allow men to use the female avatars to attention whore/they like the picture or if you allow the women to use the male avatars for anonymity/they like the picture you lose the whol.e reason for introducing them.

As it stands everyone is equal they all have access to a limited number of pictures and that's it.
