SOME RYZEN 7 1700 OVERCLOCKING!

there is significant gains for faster memory for gaming if you can get it stable. 3000-3200Mz CL15~ is where its at

"By going to 3200 MHz over 2133 MHz we were seeing near 50% performance improvement in simple memory bandwidth tests and a 16% performance jump in our 1080P gaming test."

Although TBH,Deus Ex is more likely to be GPU limited though - they are running at 1080P and medium settings. Once you whack it up to higher settings the game tends to be massively GPU limited.

I wish they tested one of the more open world games, etc, since these can be quite CPU limited and any improvements from RAM could really help with minimums!!

Guys do you believe the 1700 will take 4.2Ghz overclock on the Taichi?
Watercooled of course initially with a Predator 360 and in few months with a big thick EK 480XE, or two.

Or better grab a 1800X?

4.2 is probably pushing it, 4ghz needs quite a bit jump in voltage for most of us (1.31v to 1.41v) so @ 4.2 you'd be running it on the ragged edge as far as voltage is concerned

However the same voltage is needed for the 1800X also to work at 4.2Ghz with the Taichi.
From the way these seem to scale 4.2ghz will need 1.5v+ on a 1700, not something I'm willing try. So far at least motherboard doesn't seem to be a limiting factor in max overclocks.

In short if you really need those extra 200mhz buy an 1800X, if not buy a 1700

The 1800x may well scale better than the other chips at very low temperatures and very high voltage, so 99% of people the 1700 is fine. I think most of 1800x owners will leave at stock (turbo noobs) or have the 1800x for epeen :D

1700s although they clock reasonably well from what we've seen here they scald terribly

3.6ghz Stock volts
3.8ghz +0.1v - +0.15v
3.9ghz +0.2v - 0.25v
4ghz +0.3v - 0.35v

Not mine but found it elsewhere.
