Someone Ran me over..

All accidents are 50/50 unless there is very strong evidence to the contrary.

Driver shouldn't have done a runner though, But for that I would have been quite sympathetic for turning across an unlit cyclist at twilight.

You have read that the car that did a runner was chased down by a car behind it that witnessed the crash, yet the driver decided to not return to the scene?

Even if there was little evidence of fault, as long as it is proven accident occurred and that the driver did the runner, the driver would be 100% liable because he did a runner.

And this is the reason I will never cycle in London, as much as I'd like to! Everyone I've ever spoken to who commutes by bike has been hit at some point, to varying degrees of seriousness :( Just not worth the chance of, you know, dying.

Heck, I was walking along the main road back home and a range rover mounted the pavement right next to me. For no apparent reason other than terrible driving! They just popped off it and carried on like nothing had happened

Glad you're ok OP. I wouldn't cycle in a busy city personally, this country just doesn't have the correct infrastructure to safely use a bike to commute. It's far too dangerous.

Leaving the scene tho, that surely means he was drunk or on drugs. Surely that changes everything as a crime has now been committed. Keep us updated OP.

I know where i'm from (USA) you can literally kill a cyclist, and get away with a minor fine and a ban, (actually they say the best way to kill someone is run 'em over and just say you didn't see them) but man if you take off and leave the scene, then you're going to prison ! and rightly so ! Thats pretty low.

count your lucky stars - it gave you a perfectly valid excuse to get out of an Arsenal match.

Does the footage show you flipping in mid air?

Yea if you zoom it closely as it was shot on a wide angle dashcam.

I have another separate footage of the witness chasing him and eventually caught up with him on a dead end road and asking him to come back but he diddnt...

The off duty officer saw all these footages etc and relayed it back to the police HQ he was chatting to on my phone.

Yea i am not debating ever cycling in london again after this...

i did love it before yesterday for a few reasons:

  1. independence of travelling and not relying on public transport
  2. brilliant for exercise(cardio and leg)
  3. it took me only 24min to get to work on a slow ride(20min if i push it) vs 45-50min on the bus to commute to work

Too many dangerous cyclists about

I agree i have seen many stupid cyclist playing with death so to speak and mentioned it to some friends how cyclist should have a mandetory licence or at least cycling on road lessons as not many where taught how to cycle in the road. a HUGE difference cycling on the road vs for leisure.

HAHA but we won!!!

Im lucky that i had all these things in place when it happened(off duty cop, witness with a dashcam etc etc) and also glad that i can work from home and not lose any pay as im a contractor..

I will keep u guys informed of any further development .

TBH i just want justice done on the bloke who ran off , my health and wellbeing to be 100% back to normal and compensation for all this.

Just move to another part of the country that's not populated by nobbers.

It's exactly the same in the UK you mow someone down be it cyclist, biker, pedestrian in the road it's pretty easy to get away with a suspended sentence and a slap on the wrist.
If you want to murder someone with the least chance of any real punishment, drive over them.

Glad you're ok.

Too many drivers like this on the road now :(

This guy needs putting away for a while

Putting them away does nothing. Just ban them from all forms of transport except pushbikes. I dare say seeing it from the other side would be the best education for these drivers.

Well road users tend to be more well behaved in the countryside i find (when not bombing it down a national speed limit road like a racer). Certainly less selfish to other road users.

Pedestrians seem to cross with their eyes glued to their phones more now.

Cyclists seem to go out in hoards on the weekends. The commuters and regular cyclists seem okay when using the road but I find its usually the odd 'summer weekend hobbyist' that has no issue filtering through cars in the middle of the road on approach to a junction to turn left, as well as wear less visible clothing, less lights and no helmet.

Dont have to tell anyone here of the poor habits of drivers, we see it every day. You see it worse from people from busy areas though. I put it down to impatience.
