Something "fun" for £10k

In the next few months i'm wanting to replace my 2002 (02) Mondeo TDCI 130 Ghia (85k miles) with something more entertaining. I'm 23 with 1 year no claims. Been looking on autotrader at Toyota Celica 190's and insurance doesn't seem too bat at £750. Also Civic Type-R's but I prefer the look of the Toyoya and I don't really need the 2 back seats anyway. I did think about a Honda Integra DC2 but there aren't many around (will have to look around longer to find a good one) and i'm not that fond of the looks (Love the DC5 but that's too expensive).

So apart from those does anyone have any other suggestions? Really looking for a 2 seater coupe 2000 or newer, reliable, cheap to run, sub £1200 insurance (so nothing more expensive than a civic type-r).

I will probably end up trading in the mondeo as I doubt I'll have time going through the process of selling it privately as i'm working long hours at the moment. What kind of price would I get for it? My budget is based on a guess at £4,000 due to the high milage (bought last summer for £5,500 with 78k miles), but has a full service history and no dents or scratches.

What about one of those kit cars like doctor who has, they cant be any more then 10k :D

10K is getting toward elise money ;)

that or a MR-2 tubby and a wedge of cash left over.

I'd sugest an MG-TF 160 but I'd get my head bitten off by OMG WTF HG type things so I won't bother.

Its not just the headgasket failures, its the image, the poor handling and the lack of power in comparison to similar cars :)

How much can the S2K be got for now?

BMW 328Ci.

Glorious Straight Six, 0-60 6.5 seconds, 50/50 balance, RWD, brilliant interior, bags of kit.

Should get a nice W plater for this money.

Yeah about 10-10.5k can get a decent one if you're patient...

true. Insurance @ 23 with 1 years NCB is going to be a bit tight for his £1200 budget. its £2000 for me @ 23 with 2 years NCB! total nightmare to insure.

Could get a lovely MR2 turbo for about £7k, and spend £3k on a stupidly powerful engine ;)

To be fair, most of my family have had Rovers for ages and none of them have ever had a headgasket failure. Everything else on them has failed but the HGs have all been fine.

Hyundai Coupe V6? Just had a quick gander on auto-trader and there are a fair few 52 platers knocking around at £8k.

Whilst the rest are true to some degree, they certainly are not poor handling

Ive personally got no experience of them myself, but almost every thing ive heard about the handling has been negative.

While a Hyundai Coupe is a nice car, I wouldn't call it "fun" - it's certainly not in the same league as Toyota Celica/Civic Type-R - the Hyundai Coupes are more of a cruiser than a "hoon it down a B-road" car.

10k will see you into Lotus Elise territory - definitely something I would consider! :D

Yeah, definitely more of a Sports Tourer than a sports car. Definitely won't compete with many of the cars already mentioned.

How much fun do you want, and at what expense? I was gonna recommend a CTR, but you're already thinking of that. How about some more 'outside the box' ideas.
